Lands on IR
The Chiefs placed Rice (concussion) on IR on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
The same goes for fellow WR Tyquan Thornton (concussion), with both players shut down for the Chiefs' last two games, as the team is out of playoff contention. Rice thus finishes his 2025 campaign with 53 catches (on 78 targets) for 571 yards and five TDs in eight games to go along with five carries for 20 yards and a rushing score. Kansas City's top wideout remains under under contract with the team through 2026. In his looming absence, Xavier Worthy, Hollywood Brown, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Nikko Remigio (knee, questionable) and Jalen Royals are in line to handle the Chiefs' WR duties Thursday against the Broncos.

2023
Rice looks like a smash success of a second-round pick (55th overall in 2023) despite running into major obstacles already. His off-field issues were one of the big NFL stories of the 2024 offseason, and he then suffered a season-ending LCL tear Week 4. In between, he took a step forward from his fantastic rookie season, catching 24 passes (for 288 yards and two TDs) over the first three games of 2024. His role and production from late 2023 into early 2024 hint at WR1 fantasy potential, especially in full-PPR leagues, although he may have a hard time earning downfield targets in an offense that has speed demons Xavier Worthy and Hollywood Brown. Rice ran a 4.51 40 (at 6-foot-1, 204 pounds) at the 2023 Combine, albeit with a 41-inch vertical and 128-inch broad jump hinting at explosiveness beyond what his straight-line speed suggests. His career 4.7 aDOT is TE-like, but Rice's excellent work after the catch (8.4 YAC average) has led to a WR-like 11.9 yards per reception, and his 78.6 percent catch rate is right around the positional average for RBs. A best-case scenario for his future looks something like what Michael Thomas did in New Orleans. Rice returned healthy for the start of Kansas City's OTAs, but he then settled his legal case in July and accepted a six-game NFL suspension in August, ruling him out for Weeks 1-6. He should be a high-end fantasy starter, potentially even WR1 level, once he returns from suspension Week 7.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
May not be back Thursday
Rice has yet to be cleared to participate in practice ahead of Kansas City's game Thursday against the Broncos, Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The wideout was listed as a non-participant on Monday's estimated practice report. Rice missed Sunday's loss to the Titans with a concussion, and on a short week, he likely won't have enough time to clear the league's protocol and suit up. With Kansas City eliminated from the playoffs already and down to its third-string quarterback, it's possible the team decided to simply shut Rice down for the season and give his snaps to less experienced receivers as the coaching staff evaluates talent for 2026.
