New Jersey became the first state to offer legal sports betting outside of Nevada and Delaware, moving within weeks of PASPA being repealed in May 2018. Governor Phil Murphy signed Assembly Bill A4111 into law on June 11, 2018. New Jersey Sports Betting Licenses

Online sports betting licenses in New Jersey are issued by the NJ Division of Gaming Enforcement and are tied to market access agreements with one of the state's licensed brick-and-mortar operators — either an Atlantic City casino or an active racetrack. For Operators: Effective July 1, 2025, New Jersey taxes online sportsbook operators at 19.75% of adjusted gross gaming revenue.
