Returns to KC on practice squad

The Chiefs signed Brownlee to their practice squad Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Brownlee had been on Kansas City's active roster until he was waived Monday. Rather than explore an opportunity elsewhere, the 26-year-old wideout is returning to the Chiefs as a member of the practice squad. Brownlee has played in five of the team's six games so far this season but has drawn just one target on offense while doing most of his work on special teams.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
Brownlee got an audition in a larger role as an undrafted free agent rookie down the stretch in 2023. He played over 80 percent of the Jets' offensive snaps in four of the team's final seven games but finished with only five catches for 56 yards and one touchdown in seven appearances. The 25-year-old wide receiver finds himself on the roster bubble heading into 2024 after the Jets signed Mike Williams and drafted Malachi Corley in the third round. Even if Brownlee makes the team, it would likely take multiple injuries ahead of him to carve out a prominent role.
Brownlee's arguably the most intriguing wide receiver that went undrafted in the 2023 class. Multiple teams displayed interest in the 6-foot-2 receiver from Southern Miss after the draft, and the Jets ultimately gave Brownlee $246,000 to sign, which was the largest sum given to any 2023 UDFA and similar to the typical money for a fifth-round pick. Brownlee reportedly impressed in both OTAs and training camp, and with the Jets having dealt away WR Denzel Mims in July, Brownlee has an opportunity to secure a spot on the 53-man roster. At worst, he'll spend his rookie season on the practice squad.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Unlikely to make 53-man roster
WRKansas City Chiefs
August 23, 2025
Jesse Newell of The Athletic believes that Brownlee will not be one of the seven wide receivers that the Chiefs will carry on the 53-man roster.
ANALYSIS
Brownlee didn't make much of an impact across three preseason games, finishing with two catches on six targets for 17 yards and a touchdown while also serving on special teams. Even if the Chiefs decide to carry seven wide receivers, Newell has Jalen Royals, Nikko Remigio and Tyquan Thornton making the 53-man squad ahead of Brownlee, who could remain in Kansas City on the practice squad after Tuesday's roster cutdown day.
