Steady production in third campaign
WRNew England Patriots
February 11, 2026
Boutte caught 33 of 46 targets for 551 yards and six touchdowns over 14 games during the 2025 regular season.
ANALYSIS
Boutte saw a slight dip in receiving yards while reeling in 10 fewer passes in his third campaign with New England, but his six scores were double his combined total from his first two years in the league. The wide receiver became a go-to option for second-year quarterback Drake Maye on the deep ball, as his 16.7 yards per reception ranked fifth in the NFL during the regular season. Additionally, Boutte caught nine of 20 targets for a team-high 168 receiving yards, including a 32-yard touchdown, over the Patriots' four postseason contests.

2023
Boutte had 735 yards as an 18-year-old freshman at LSU back in 2020, followed by 508 yards and nine TDs in six games in 2021, before disappointing in his final season with 538 yards over 11 games. He then dropped to Round 6 of the 2023 Draft after crashing out at the combine with a 4.50 40 and 29-inch vertical (at 5-foot-11, 195). There wasn't much reason to think we'd hear from Boutte again after a two-catch rookie season, but the Patriots gave him a shot last year after their other WRs (besides slot man DeMario Douglas) provided next to nothing. Boutte responded with a long stretch of mediocre receiving lines, averaging 2.5 catches for 33.6 yards on 4.6 targets in his first 10 starts, before erupting over the final three weeks for a combined 16-240-2 receiving line on 19 targets. He drew targets on just 16.4 percent of his routes for the season, but easily led New England's qualified pass catchers in aDOT (14.2), yards per target (8.7) and yards per catch (13.7). While it may not have been enough to lock down a 2025 starting job, Boutte should at least have the chance to compete with rookie third-round pick Kyle Williams -- and there may even be room for both if free-agent signing Stefon Diggs struggles to come back from an ACL tear.
After being selected by the Patriots in the sixth round of the 2023 draft, Boutte caught two passes for 17 yards while playing in four games. At six foot, 217 pounds, Boutte tested poorly before his rookie season. The receiver posted a 50th percentile 40-yard dash time. In addition, Boutte’s explosiveness testing was in the 23rd percentile. Finally, he had a 43rd percentile agility score. After the Patriots added Ja’Lynn Polk and Javon Baker in the draft, it may be difficult for the former LSU player to have a prominent role in the Patriots offense, though Boutte should have a chance to earn a role during training camp.
After a strong first two years at LSU, Boutte appeared to be on his way to being an early round selection in the 2023 NFL Draft. However, during his 2022 junior season with the Tigers, he recorded just 48 catches for 538 yards and two touchdowns on 74 targets. Then, following subpar results at the combine, Boutte tumbled to the Patriots in the sixth round of April's draft. Given where he was taken, the 5-11, 195-pounder isn't guaranteed a key role as a rookie, let alone a roster spot. Still, the potential is there for Boutte (formerly a standout college recruit) to bounce back as a pro and turn into a huge bargain for New England.

Taking No. 1 mantle in '26?
WRNew England Patriots
March 4, 2026
Boutte is a leading candidate to assume the role of the Patriots' lead receiver once Stefon Diggs is released next week, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Boutte put some solid play on tape in 2025, his third season, averaging a career-high 12.0 yards per target and 16.7 yards per reception on a 33-551-6 line over 46 targets in 14 regular-season games. The 2023 sixth-round pick technically moves to the top of the positional depth chart in New England when Diggs' now-confirmed release becomes official, but Reiss also points out Eagles wideout A.J. Brown could be a trade target given his past ties to Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel from their days in Tennessee.
