Cowing, a 2024 fourth-round pick, was held out of practice Wednesday after aggravating a hamstring injury and now has further competition for a roster spot after the 49ers traded for Skyy Moore on Wednesday, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.

The combination of circumstances could conspire to put Cowing in jeopardy of missing out on a roster spot at final cutdowns. As a rookie, the Arizona product managed just a 4-80 receiving line on six targets across 15 regular-season games. Despite the plethora of other injuries to the receiver corps and Demarcus Robinson's season-opening three-game suspension, Cowing could be deemed expendable if it appears the hamstring issue will keep him out for an extended period, especially with veterans such as Russell Gage, Isaiah Hodgins, Malik Turner, Robbie Chosen and Moore all on the depth chart.
