2025 Fantasy Outlook
Aiyuk finally got the big extension he wanted at the end of a contentious 2024 summer, but it wasn't long before the 49ers regretted it. After turning 105 targets into 1,342 yards and seven TDs the year before, Aiyuk had just one game in 2024 with 50-plus yards or double-digit PPR points before suffering ACL and MCL tears Week 7. He had surgery in mid-November, leaving him uncertain for Week 1 of 2025 and unlikely to regain his top form early in the year. Aiyuk will again face tough competition for targets, with Deebo Samuel's offseason departure negated by a breakout 2024 from Jauan Jennings and a strong finish to the year from rookie first-round pick Ricky Pearsall. With TE George Kittle and RB Christian McCaffrey also still kicking, we can probably abandon any prior hopes of Aiyuk seeing a volume spike once Samuel left the 49ers. The good news is that Aiyuk has shown he can put up WR2 fantasy numbers on WR3 volume while serving as the vertical threat in a top offense. However, it's not entirely clear the 49ers still have an elite offense, nor is it certain that Aiyuk will pose the same field-stretching threat a year after major knee surgery. Read Past Outlooks

Won't play for Niners again
San Francisco GM John Lynch said Wednesday that Aiyuk (knee) won't play for the 49ers again, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Reports in November suggested Aiyuk was angling for his release after the 49ers voided guarantees in his contract. He'll likely get his wish in the coming weeks, with Lynch now confirming that Aiyuk won't be welcomed back to the team.

Aiyuk and Brock Purdy formed perhaps the most efficient QB/WR duo in the league last season, with 105 passes producing 75 catches (71.4 percent) for 1,342 yards (17.9 YPR, 12.8 YPT) and seven touchdowns. The 2020 first-round pick topped his previous career high for catch rate by three percentage points despite having a sky-high 13.8 aDOT after three straight seasons in the 9.4-9.9 range. That catch rate will be nearly impossible to replicate without the aDOT (and YPR) declining, but Aiyuk still projects as one of the most efficient receivers in the league, catching passes from Purdy in a Kyle Shanahan offense that boasts three other excellent playmakers (Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel and George Kittle). It was Aiyuk who led the group in targets last year, albeit by a small margin with each of the four drawing at least 83 looks. He's now scheduled to play out his age-26 season under the fifth-year option on his rookie contract, presumably hoping to sign an extension this spring/summer (and perhaps considering a holdout if nothing gets done). While no speed demon -- he ran a 4.50 40 at 6-0. 205 pounds in 2020 -- Aiyuk is unusually fluid/quick for someone so stoutly built and tracks balls downfield as naturally as any receiver in the league. He might be a 140-target guy in another offense, but it's hard to imagine him seeing that kind of volume for the Niners unless their other key playmakers have a brutal year for injuries. Of course, he's already shown he doesn't need huge volume to put up strong numbers in such a favorable situation efficiency-wise.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
GM makes definitive statement
General manager John Lynch said Wednesday "it's safe to say" Aiyuk has "played his last snap with the Niners," Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lynch went on to describe the frayed relationship between the team and Aiyuk, who remains on the reserve/left squad list, as "unfortunate." The veteran wideout didn't play in 2025 in the wake of his devastating Oct. 2024 knee injury, and Wagoner notes Aiyuk alienated himself from the team by skipping multiple rehab sessions during the offseason, which helped lead to the 49ers voiding roughly $27 million in guarantees Aiyuk had in his contract for next season.
