Evans is in line to sign a three-year contract with the 49ers, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Evans' agent released a statement Monday confirming that the wideout will leave Tampa Bay after 12 seasons. He showed some signs of decline in 2025 and now will turn 33 before Week 1 of 2026, but it's hard to think of a better location for Evans to regain fantasy value -- especially if fellow free agent Jauan Jennings doesn't return to San Francisco. The 49ers have a breakout candidate in Ricky Pearsall, but there's not much else of note in the WR room unless Jennings re-signs (which isn't likely at this point).

There have been some close calls during Evans' 10-year streak of 1,000-yard seasons, but 2023 wasn't one of them. He had one of his best campaigns yet in the first year after Tom Brady's retirement, with his most targets (136), catches (79) and yards (1,255) since 2018 while falling just one TD shy of his career high (13 was still good enough to tie for the league lead). QB Baker Mayfield enjoyed a renaissance, and his solid work throwing downfield allowed Evans to land slightly north of his career averages for YPT (9.2), aDOT (14.0) and YPC (15.9) despite taking on more volume. The Bucs threw fewer passes than they had with Brady, but Evans' share of the targets skyrocketed to 24.5 percent after three straight years in the high teens. Tampa then managed to re-sign both Evans and Mayfield this offseason, though OC Dave Canales slipped away to become head coach of the Panthers. New coordinator Liam Coen said he plans to move Chris Godwin back to the slot -- which should correspond to a higher target rate -- but there's not much else around in terms of target competition after the Bucs used all their cap space to keep the gang together and settled for third-round pick Jalen McMillan as WR3 competition for Trey Palmer. And while the likelihood of TD regression has to be noted for any player that accounted for 13 of his team's 28 receiving scores, Evans has a lengthy track record of hitting paydirt (12.3 percent of his career receptions) from both distance and inside the red zone,

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could come down to TB or WAS in FA
The Buccaneers remain aggressive in their efforts to re-sign Evans, but the Commanders could emerge as a potential landing spot for the veteran wide receiver, per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com.
ANALYSIS
Evans has stated that he wants to go to a situation with a good quarterback and plenty of available targets. Buffalo looked like a good fit but is less likely to splurge on Evans in free agency after bolstering its wide receiver room by trading for DJ Moore. The Buccaneers look like the favorites to retain Evans, but Washington would make sense with Jayden Daniels at quarterback and no clear starter at wide receiver opposite Terry McLaurin as the team heads into free agency.
