2025 Fantasy Outlook
Williams, who spent the first six years of his career with the Bengals, signed with the Patriots this offseason, but was cut in training camp. While the 2019 sixth-rounder is unlikely to garner enough touches on offense to find himself on the fantasy radar, the 5-foot-8, 206-pounder could earn another gig thanks to his ability as a returner. Back with practice squad
Williams reverted to the Chargers' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log.
ANALYSIS
Williams elevated for the third game in a row ahead of Sunday's 31-14 win over the Raiders, failing to record any stats while playing 14 snaps on special teams. The running back didn't garner an offensive snap while Kimani Vidal (51) and Jaret Patterson (15) operated ahead of him in the backfield. With Omarion Hampton (ankle) nearing a return to action, Williams will likely remain on the practice squad or operate in an extreme depth role moving forward.

Williams is 26 years old and entering his sixth professional season, which a little too old and a little too experienced for him to continue to be an "ascending" running back, a term applied to Williams ever since he was drafted out of Texas A&M in 2019. Though he played more offensive snaps (156) in 2023 than ever, that translated into only 15 carries and nine targets. Williams played a bigger role on special teams, with 294 snaps and 290 kick return yards. Though the Bengals didn't add another RB in the draft, Williams will still likely contribute the most on special teams again in 2024.

Expected to make team
Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic believes Williams will make Cincinnati's 53-man roster despite having missed the team's first two preseason games due to a sprained ankle.
ANALYSIS
Both Chris Evans and rookie Chase Brown have taken advantage of Williams' absence. Evans appears poised to begin the season as the Bengals' third-down back, while Brown profiles as the top backup to Joe Mixon on early downs. Despite dropping to fourth on the depth chart as he recovers from the injury, Williams is still expected to make the team and could carve out playing time once healthy.
