Agrees to three-year deal with LAC
TELos Angeles Chargers
March 9, 2026
Kolar agreed to a three-year, $24 million contract with the Chargers on Monday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Once Kolar's deal is made official Wednesday at the start of the new league year, he will become the league's highest-paid blocking tight end, per Garafolo. The deal includes $17 million in guaranteed money. Perhaps the Chargers also see some untapped pass-catching potential in Kolar, who had just 30 catches across four regular seasons with the Ravens while working behind Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely.

Mark Andrews' injury in November raised the question as to who was up next in the Ravens' tight end room. The answer was emphatically Isaiah Likely. Kolar still had a role, though, averaging 24.2 snaps per game from Week 12 through Week 18. Kolar was worthy of a fourth-round pick in 2022 and his collegiate numbers point to him as a credible pass catcher. The issue is less that Andrews is back in the fold as the starter, but rather that Likely has broken out and will command a sizable role. Three tight ends being involved in an offense is simply not the way things work in the modern NFL, so Kolar would need some injuries ahead of him in order to see regular snaps.
The second-year tight end is looking to make his mark after being sidelined for much of his rookie year. Kolar did flash in his one game with significant snaps by catching four of six targets for 49 yards in the playoff loss to the Bengals. Kolar does face some challenges for 2023, though as the new offense may steer towards more three-receiver sets and fewer multiple-tight end looks that were staple under Greg Roman. Beyond that, it's a tough depth chart to climb with Mark Andrews entrenched as the engine of the passing game and fellow second-year man Isaiah Likely, who had a strong rookie campaign. Kolar's size (6-foot-6, 250 pounds) could help get him on the field as a blocker, but he will need to show some significant improvement to carve out a role in the passing game.
The Iowa State product was one of two tight ends selected by the Ravens in the fourth round of this year's draft, joining Isaiah Likely out of Coastal Carolina. Kolar was uniquely productive in college for a tight end as he recorded 157 catches for 2,044 yards and 20 touchdowns on 247 targets in his final three seasons. He's also a massive target at 6-7 and 252 pounds with 34.5-inch arms. As for his fit in Baltimore, Mark Andrews is the clear No.1 and veteran Nick Boyle is useful as a run blocker. Baltimore, however, is thin on receiver help, so more targets could be funneled to the tight ends this season. Kolar versus Likely will be an interesting battle to monitor in training camp as the player who comes out on top could find himself in position for a decent target share as a rookie.

Could land bigger opportunity
TEBaltimore Ravens
February 19, 2026
Kolar is ranked 43rd among available free agents by Daniel Popper of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
Kolar's an elite run blocker, and Popper believes the free-agent tight end has untapped potential as a pass catcher. In four regular seasons with the Ravens, Kolar compiled just 411 receiving yards and four touchdowns, as Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely got most of the pass-catching opportunities. Andrews was extended by the Ravens, while Likely is ranked eight spots ahead of Kolar by Popper at 35th.
