Kansas City has had success with late-round running backs in recent years, most notably 2022 seventh-round pick Isiah Pacheco, but Smith brings a very different skill set to the table. The SMU product converted from wide receiver in college, giving him real upside as a passing-down option in the NFL, and he impressed at the combine by posting a 4.39 time in the 40-yard dash. Smith got the chance to serve as the lead back for the Chiefs due to Isiah Pacheco (rest) being sidelined. Smith led the team with 12 rushing attempts -- his highest mark since Week 7 -- and delivered solid chunk gains of 14, 10 and nine yards. He was not utilized much in his rookie season, but Smith's potential role in 2026 will be worth monitoring, as Kansas City is likely to remake its running back depth chart.
