Ando was transferred from Avispa Fukuoka to St. Pauli,
his new club announced. "Tomoya's arrival gives us greater flexibility in defense, as he can play in any position within a three-man backline. In recent years, he has consistently adapted very quickly to the higher level and established himself in the national team. That's why we are convinced he can play a significant role from the outset," Sporting director Andreas Bornemann said.
ANALYSIS
Ando played his first season in the Japanese top flight in 2025 following Fukuoko's promotion, making 36 appearances and scoring four goals, while also featuring six times across the Emperor's Cup and the Japanese League Cup. He later gained experience in Japan's second division, where he made 64 appearances with two goals and one assist. In July, the versatile defender earned his first senior national team call-up and has since made three appearances.
