New lead back for NOLA
Etienne has agreed to terms Monday on a contract with the Saints, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Etienne becomes the clear No. 1 option in a New Orleans backfield that also houses incumbents Alvin Kamara (knee), Kendre Miller (ACL), Devin Neal (hamstring) and Audric Estime. The Louisiana native surpassed 1,000 rushing yards in three of the last four seasons as the leader of Jacksonville's rushing attack, and his combination of speed and three-down skills project as an ideal fit for Saints head coach Kellen Moore's offensive scheme. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that Etienne's contract is a four-year, $52 million deal, a commitment that signals he likely will be utilized in a similar workhorse role to the one he attained down the stretch of his tenure with the Jaguars.

You wouldn't know it from his 2023 rushing average, but Etienne is one of the most explosive running backs of distant NFL memory. This was made clear by his 2022 season (5.1 yards per carry over 220 carries) and four-year Clemson career (7.2 yards per carry and 70 touchdowns over 686 carries). The Jaguars offense fell apart in 2023, however, implausibly limiting Etienne to 3.8 YPC. The coaches and front office committed to the theory that this dropoff was the fault of the offensive line rather than the scheme/coaches, making it a goal to improve the team's blocking going into 2024. Unfortunately, the Jaguars mostly seem to be counting on internal improvement and better health. The signing of free agent center Mitch Morse adds a competent starter but not a true difference-maker, and the other four positions are in the hands of returning starters Cam Robinson (left tackle), Ezra Cleveland (left guard), Brandon Scherff (right guard) and Anton Harrison (right tackle). Although Etienne is one of the best running backs in the league and seemingly locked in for another large workload, he might be playing on a higher difficulty level than other top RBs.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Top suitors include Chiefs, Broncos
Etienne is expected to garner interest from Kansas City and Denver in free agency, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com.
ANALYSIS
Etienne's three-down skill set appeals to the pair of AFC West contenders. He's expected to contend for the highest salary among free-agent running backs with Kenneth Walker, who may be a better pure runner than Etienne but isn't as reliable as a blocker and pass catcher. Fowler expects both running backs to get close to $12 million per year.
