Dallas Cowboys
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Schoonmaker has been stuck behind Jake Ferguson for two seasons, and the 2023 second-round pick’s situation hasn’t changed heading into 2025. Ferguson missed three games in 2024, and Schoonmaker filled in admirably, catching 15 of 20 targets for 154 yards and one touchdown across those three games. Schoonmaker has the talent to excel if given a larger opportunity, but it would likely take an injury to Ferguson for Schoonmaker to see enough volume to be a fantasy difference-maker in Dallas’ offense. No targets in Week 11 win
TEDallas Cowboys
November 19, 2025
Schoonmaker went without a target while playing 30 of the Cowboys' 67 snaps on offense in Monday's 33-16 win over the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
Schoonmaker ran routes on just six of his 30 snaps and was one of the few Dallas pass catchers to go without a look on a night in which quarterback Dak Prescott targeted nine different players. So as long as top tight end Jake Ferguson is available, Schoonmaker looks like he'll mostly be limited to a tertiary role in the passing game while serving as a blocker more often than not when he's on the field.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
Schoonmaker was able to play only eight games as a rookie after being selected in the second round of the 2023 Draft, and he's already running the risk of getting stuck with the injury-prone label. A partial tear of his plantar fascia hampered him last offseason, he underwent shoulder surgery in March, and he was unable to return during OTAs due to a hamstring strain. Jake Ferguson established himself as the Cowboys' starting tight end last year, and even if Schoonmaker is able to stay healthy in 2024, he could have trouble carving out a significant role.
Selected in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft as the fifth tight end taken in what was seen as a very deep class at the position, Schoonmaker has the size (6-5, 251) and athleticism to be a solid blocker on the line while contributing as a receiver at the sticks. That's the template the Cowboys have been using at the position ever since Jason Witten left, and while Dalton Schultz's departure this offseason does open up the starting spot, Schoonmaker will have to beat out second-year player Jake Ferguson, who offers similar size and has shown some chemistry in the passing game with Dak Prescott, for the job.

Could shift back to backup role
TEDallas Cowboys
December 5, 2024
Schoonmaker could slide down a spot on the depth chart Monday against the Bengals, as Jake Ferguson participated in Wednesday's walk-through session, per David Moore of The Dallas Morning News.
ANALYSIS
Ferguson is trending up in his recovery from a concussion that sidelined him for Dallas' past two games. Including the game in which Ferguson got hurt, Schoonmaker has thrived as Dallas' top tight end, catching 14 of 20 targets for 144 yards and a touchdown in a three-game span. In nine games prior to Ferguson's injury, Schoonmaker had just eight catches for 56 yards. Ferguson still needs to clear the NFL's five-step concussion protocol in order to play in Week 14.
