2025 Projections
Three catches in 2025
Mitchell caught all three of his targets for 28 yards across five regular-season games in 2025.
ANALYSIS
The 2022 fifth-round pick from Virginia Tech operated as Carolina's No. 4 tight end and was active primarily when Ja'Tavion Sanders (ankle, IR) or Tommy Tremble were sidelined this season. Mitchell contributed both offensively and on special teams during his five appearances, logging 46 offensive snaps and 39 on special teams. He's set to become a restricted free agent following the Panthers' 2025 playoff campaign, but his future with the team remains uncertain, as Sanders, Tremble and rookie Mitchell Evans are all under contract for 2026.

2022
Mitchell caught two passes for 28 yards over 15 contests with the Lions in 2023, and he'll enter this season as the team's third option at tight end behind Sam LaPorta and Brock Wright. Heading into his third year in Detroit after the team selected him in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Mitchell has operated pretty much exclusively as a run blocker and special-teams asset for the team. It's unlikely that there will be much of an opportunity for him to carve out a significant role on the Lions offense this season, barring an injury to either LaPorta or Wright.

Makes case for 53-man roster
Mitchell saw an increased role on offense during the Panthers' 30-10 preseason loss to the Browns on Friday, finishing with three catches on four targets for 25 yards, Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer reports.
ANALYSIS
With Tommy Tremble sidelined due to a back injury, Mitchell was heavily deployed in the Panthers' offense and outpaced rookie fifth-round tight end Mitchell Evans. Mitchell also played on special teams, and that versatility makes him a dark-horse candidate to make the Panthers' 53-man roster at the end of training camp as a backup tight end. He spent most of the 2024 campaign on the Lions' practice squad, with his lone regular-season appearance taking place in Week 11 against the Jaguars.
