Dontayvion Wicks

24-Year-Old Wide ReceiverWR
Green Bay Packers
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Wicks seemed to be everyone's favorite "sleeper" at WR last year, after bursting onto the scene as a rookie fifth-round pick in 2023 with a 39-581-4 receiving line on just 58 targets and 272 routes (21.2 percent target rate, 2.13 YPRR). One of the biggest concerns for his 2024 fantasy value was a supposedly deep group of pass catchers in Green Bay, but Wicks' performance ended up being the real problem. He failed to take advantage when Romeo Doubs and Christian Watson missed time, despite drawing targets on a team-high 27.1 percent of routes. Wicks dropped nine passes, third most in the league and three more than any other player with fewer than 100 targets. He also bobbled a number of his receptions, visibly struggling to complete catches to an extent rarely seen in the NFL. Nobody doubts that Wicks can get open or gain yards after the catch, but he's far from a burner (4.62 40), and there's not much precedent for physical, possession-oriented receivers succeeding without decent hands. It's hard to say what the future will hold for him even if Watson struggles to return from an ACL tear, especially after the Packers drafted WR Matthew Golden in the first round, adding a potential new starter alongside Doubs and Jayden Reed. Wicks (ankle) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Bears, Wes Hodkiewicz of the Packers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Wicks was a limited participant in all three of Green Bay's practices this week but has the green light to suit up for Sunday's pivotal NFC North matchup. Matthew Golden (wrist) went through the same practice regimen but is listed as questionable. Wicks capitalized on Golden's absence against the Lions on Thanksgiving Day, as the former set season highs with six catches for 94 yards and scored his first two touchdowns of the campaign.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
Wicks came in as a fifth-round pick last year and played 50-to-66 percent of snaps in Green Bay's first four games, before sliding back to the bench once 2022 second-rounder Christian Watson got healthy. Wicks had just six catches for 85 yards over those first four games, but he caught fire in his part-time role, hauling in 16 of 22 targets for 279 yards over a six-game stretch in which he never played more than 30 snaps. He became a starter again in December with Watson and fellow rookie Jayden Reed bothered by injuries, only to suffer a chest injury of his own in the process of making a TD catch Week 16. Wicks came back Week 18 and caught a pair of TD passes, giving him a 16-207-3 receiving line on 22 targets over his final four appearances of the regular season. He then split snaps with Watson in two playoff games and had 2-25-1 on four targets, while Romeo Doubs took the lead in Green Bay's passing game. Overall, Wicks' rookie season was a pleasant surprise given his 430-yard senior year at Virginia and 4.62 40 time at the 2023 Combine. On the other hand, he'd put up 1,203 yards and nine TDs as a junior, and his non-40 workout numbers were impressive, including a 39-inch vertical and 130-inch broad jump at 6-1, 206. Wicks is probably the most physical among Green Bay's group of talented young wideouts, but the target projection is tricky given that Watson, Doubs and Reed all were drafted earlier and also have made their respective cases as NFL starters. It might take an injury or two for Wicks to get the volume he deserves in a Green Bay offense that caught fire in the second half of last season with QB Jordan Love and HC Matt LaFleur firing on all cylinders.
After a 2021 season with Virginia in which he averaged 21.1 yards per catch and scored nine touchdowns, Wicks fell off last year (14.3 YPC, two TDs) and subsequently fell down draft boards. Even so, the Packers liked him enough to snap him up in the fifth round of this year's draft. Drops were an issue for Wicks, as were his 40-yard dash times (4.62 at the combine, 4.57 at his pro day). He otherwise rates well athletically and can be a big-play threat. Green Bay's receiving room is as green as any in the NFL, so if Wicks shows he's more like the receiver from 2021 than a year ago, he could snag the fourth spot on the depth chart and push for snaps as a rookie.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Takes exception to Jacobs' comments
WRGreen Bay Packers
February 5, 2025
Wicks reacted to a social media video of teammate Josh Jacobs saying that the Packers needed to add a "proven No. 1" receiver this offseason with a thumbs down emoji Wednesday, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jacobs made multiple media appearances Wednesday and essentially expressed the same sentiment during each one about Green Bay's wide receiver situation. The veteran running back, who just signed with the Packers last offseason, said he was very high on the potential of the team's current wideout crop despite his comments. Meanwhile, Wicks, -- who put together a 78-996-9 receiving line across 32 games in his first two seasons -- unsurprisingly disagreed with Jacobs' assessment.
