Could unretire for right situation
Carr (shoulder) could consider ending his retirement and returning to the NFL, depending on the "right situation and coaching staff," sources tell Ian Rapoport, Mike Garafolo and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
ANALYSIS
According to the report, Carr doesn't appear to be actively pursuing a return to the league after sitting out the 2025 season, though he acknowledged a few months ago that he would "never say never" when it comes to resuming his playing career. After an injury-plagued 2024 campaign in which he dealt with a labral tear of his throwing shoulder as well as a broken left hand and an oblique strain, Carr announced his retirement last May and was placed on the Saints' reserve/retired list. Carr avoided surgery to address the shoulder injury and has since made a full recovery through extended rest and rehab, which has resulted in teams having renewed interest in exploring whether the 34-year-old might want to return to the NFL. The Saints still hold Carr's rights, but with Tyler Shough coming off an impressive rookie season and establishing himself as the team's starting quarterback entering 2026, New Orleans would likely be willing to waive Carr or trade him at a minimal cost if he decides to come out of retirement.

In his first season in New Orleans, Carr finished with similar numbers to his last season in Las Vegas. How he got there was a little different, though. He was barely usable most of the fantasy season, averaging 11.8 fantasy points in his first 13 games. But he came alive in the last four games, throwing 12 of his 25 TD passes Weeks 15-18 to average 22.0 fantasy points. The Saints offense also changed his approach a bit. It wasn't all dink-and-dunk, but 66.4 percent of his attempts went less than 10 yards, up from 59.1 percent the season prior. That rebounded his completion percentage to 68.4 after the previous season's career low, but his YPA only ticked up from 7.0 to 7.1 as his average target depth tumbled from 9.1 to 7.8. That's what happens when you lean on RB Alvin Kamara (75 catches in 13 games) because the WRs and TEs can't get separation (2.8 yards, 27th). The Saints cut oft-injured WR Michael Thomas this offseason but didn't do much to upgrade the wideouts, signing the unimpressive Cedrick Wilson and Equanimeous St. Brown. Chris Olave is the only consistent weapon for Carr, though No. 2 Rashid Shaheed is useful as a deep target and could perhaps expand his arsenal this year. New offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak should be an upgrade, but it might not make much of a difference for fantasy given Carr's mediocre supporting cast and total lack of rushing statistics.

Teams are not interested in trading for Carr if he decides to come out of retirement, Jason La Canfora of SportsBoom reports.
ANALYSIS
Carr floated the possbility of coming out of retirement on a podcast just before the Super Bowl, but his market could be limited by a few things. He is still under contract with the Saints, so he would need to be acquired via trade. Carr also narrowed down his market by saying he only wanted to play for a contender, while most of the top teams already have a franchise quarterback in place.
