NFL Box Score Breakdown: Week 15 Snaps, Routes & Personnel Usage

This article is part of our Box Score Breakdown series.

Make sure to keep up with NFL breaking news and updates to NFL projections and injury reports throughout the week. If you're looking for target and air-yard shares that only include active games, you can find those updated every Tuesday on RotoWire's advanced receiving stats page. The percentages found below in our advanced box scores include all games, even if the player didn't participate.

Stat Table Key

Weekly stats (first six columns)

  • Snap = % of team snaps that player was on the field for
  • Route = route share (routes run  |  QB dropbacks)
  • RUSHING = rushing line
  • RECEIVE = receiving line
  • Tgt = targets
  • AY = Air Yards

2025 Season Stats (final five columns)

  • Sn'25 = snap share for the season
  • Rt'25 = route share for the season
  • TPRR = Targets per Route Run
  • TS = Percentage of team's targets
  • AYS = Percentage of team's air yards

The final five columns of each stat table below (written in italics) show numbers for the entire season. Bold lettering denotes especially strong marks relative to positional standards. Green lettering for the weekly stats denotes considerable increases in playing time and/or usage relative to past weeks. Red lettering denotes the opposite a decreased role relative to prior games.

  • RB Tyler Allgeier got just two carries on 18% of snaps. Bijan Robinson handled 30 of 32 RB opportunities on an 89% snap share, playing on three days' rest in mid-December for a team with no hope of making the playoffs. Happy now?
  • TE Kyle Pitts put up 11-166-3, after 6-90-0 and 7-82-0 in his previous two games. I wish I had some great take/advice to offer here. He's playing much better than in past years, cutting down on drops (two) despite seeing far more short-area targets. That said, will anyone really be surprised if Drake London returns and Pitts drops back to 5-6 targets per game? I'm not saying that's definitely what will happen, but I'm also not convinced that Pitts has totally overcome his flaws (or will get the volume he deserves even if he has).
    • The only league where I have Pitts is a RW staff dynasty league, in which I also have Trey McBride and would thus have to bench Breece Hall (12.8 PPR average), Sam Darnold (14.4) or D'Andre Swift (14.8) to get Pitts in my lineup. There's no way I'm doing it if London plays, but if London is inactive again I'll probably bite the bullet and start Pitts over Hall (even though Hall faces the Saints).

  • RB Bucky Irving's role looked like Week 13 (his first game back from injury) rather than Week 14, which is a good thing for fantasy managers, but he ended up with just 8.1 PPR points despite getting 19 of the 25 RB opportunities (76%) on a 56% snap share.
    • Sean Tucker vultured a goal-line TD but played just 11% of snaps, while Rachaad White took 41% of snaps but finished with just one carry and one target.
  • WR Mike Evans wasn't quite a full-time player at 51% snap share and 72% route share, yet he easily led the team in targets (12), air yards (179) and receiving yards (132).
    • WR Emeka Egbuka dropped to a 64% snap share and 62% route share with Evans back in the lineup. It was Egbuka's best game in a while in terms of yards per target, and with a strong target rate to match, but the loss of playing time nonetheless adds to pre-existing doubts for anyone that hoped to start him in Weeks 16-17.
    • WR Chris Godwin easily led the team with a 95% route share (and 95% snap share), putting up 4-20-1 on five targets. He was well behind Evans and Egbuka in terms of targets and yards, but the playing time was best-case scenario. I'd start Godwin over Egbuka in Week 16, without second thought or hesitation.
    • WR Jalen McMillan got nearly as much playing time as Egbuka in his season debut, and came awfully close to scoring a TD (McMillan's catch at the goal line set up Tucker's TD).
  • TEs Payne Durham and Devin Culp rotated in the absence of Cade Otton (knee), both finishing below 50% route share, with their lone combined target being Culp's six-yard TD.

  • The split between Omarion Hampton and Kimani Vidal was similar to Week 14, with Vidal having a significant edge in snap/routes but not touches/production.
    • I don't think Vidal will totally disappear, but it does seem Hampton is ready for more playing time down the stretch.
  • WR Tre' Harris took over all of Quentin Johnston's role with Johnston out due to a groin injury, finishing second on the team in routes (82%), targets (five) and air yards (45).
    • I'm not a huge Harris fan, but he's probably about as good as Johnston, with a path to becoming considerably better.
  • TE Oronde Gadsden led the team in air yards and receiving yards, but his snap and route shares dropped for a third straight game since the Week 12 bye.
    • The lower snap shares (relative to October/November) are largely a product of the Chargers using heavy looks with Scott Matlock and/or Tucker Fisk rather than a true tight end. However, Gadsden's snap shares in 11 personnel have also dipped some after often being at 90+ percent in Oct/Nov.
      • Gadsden took just 69% of snaps in 11 personnel in Week 15, down from 78% in Week 14 and 83% in Week 15. It's tough to get by on route shares around 60% for a team that isn't passing much, even if the per-route numbers are excellent overall (and perhaps now rebounding somewhat from a slump?).

  • QB Patrick Mahomes suffered an ACL tear, leaving Gardner Minshew to play out the stretch of Kansas City's first non-playoff season in a long time.
  • WRs Rashee Rice and Tyquan Thornton (concussion) took huge hits from S Tony Jefferson. Rice was able to continue playing and actually had a season-high 95% route share, while Thornton left for concussion protocol.
  • RB Isiah Pacheco took over more work from Kareem Hunt but didn't have any success. It was around 50/50 in terms of playing time, with Pacheco having an 11-6 advantage in carries (but zero targets). Neither looks startable for fantasy down the stretch, as Kansas City is unlikely to find success with the ground game even if it becomes more of an emphasis initially in Mahomes' absence.

  • RB Breece Hall played 73% of snaps in the first half, but with only nine of 14 RB opportunities (the other five went to Isaiah Davis, who took the five carries for 24 yards).
    • Davis mixed in more during the third quarter and then broke a 24-yard TD run early in the fourth quarter. Hall still got a handful of snaps and two carries after that, but there was a clear effort to scale back his workload after the Jaguars extended their lead to 38-13 midway through the third quarter.
  • WR Adonai Mitchell got there, even if it wasn't pretty, while Isaiah Williams continues to look like a sneaky-good find as a potential long-term return specialist and No. 3/4 receiver.
  • TE Jeremy Ruckert got just 50% route share and two targets even with Mason Taylor (neck) inactive for the first time this year.

  • QB Trevor Lawrence tossed four of his five TD passes to running backs, including three to Travis Etienne, who played 67% of snaps before the fourth quarter.
  • RB LeQuint Allen took each of the four RB carries after Etienne's 45-yard TD put the game away.
  • Bhayshul Tuten scored a TD on his lone target and took one carry for seven yards, handling a minimal role after two fumbles and a benching the week before. Tuten then missed the fourth quarter with a finger/hand injury that required surgery and now figures to lead to missed time.
    • ETN appears set up for a monster finish to the season.
  • Meyers again led the Jaguars in routes (97%) and targets (seven), though Brian Thomas had the same number of targets and more air yards (136) while scoring a TD.
    • Thomas and Meyers both look like strong fantasy starters these last few weeks. Washington, on the other hand, split snaps with Tim Patrick in his first game back from a hip injury. Granted, Washington put up 3-53-0 on three targets, quickly showing why he was ahead of Patrick in the first place. Washington is at least in WR4/5 range still, where you could start him in a pinch.
    • TE Brenton Strange got his usual playing time but just three targets.

  • RB TreVeyon Henderson broke off two long-distance TDs and took 14 of 20 RB carries, but Rhamondre Stevenson was solidly ahead for both snap share (67% - 49%) and route share (58% - 27%), and both had the same number of targets (three).
    • Stevenson didn't have a carry after halftime, but Henderson got just three, with one being the long TD run. The Bills dominated possession and forced the Patriots into some long-distance situations. Stevenson played 74% of snaps in the second half, compared to 42% for Henderson (the Pats used some two-RB looks).
      • Henderson may have earned himself an even larger share of the rushing work moving forward, but the Patriots clearly want Stevenson on the field for most of their pass plays.
  • WR Stefon Diggs didn't get a boost in playing time despite the importance of the game. He ran far fewer routes than Kayshon Boutte, and was also solidly behind
    • I find it incredibly odd that Diggs' playing time spiked when Boutte was injured, but not for a crucial game. Which suggests that Diggs' disappointing snap/route shares aren't really workload management. Keep that in mind for playoff contests, though things can always change.

  • It's kind of amazing that the Raiders won any games with such a horrific combination of blocking and offensive scheming. Geno Smith (shoulder) isn't vindicated, but Kenny Pickett looking even worse might help Smith's odds of finding a shot to compete for a starting job if/when the Raiders move on from him this offseason.
  • WR Jack Bech played 81% of snaps, while Dont'e Thornton took just 19% in his return from an absence. Tyler Lockett suffered a wrist injury late in the game, but that didn't have a huge impact on snap/route numbers.

  • Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, Dallas Goedert and A.J. Brown each played just one snap in the fourth quarter. Before that, workload shares were in the usual range, besides a snap-share dip for DeVonta Smith due to the Eagles' flirtation with the 13 personnel trend.
    • Brown took 10 of the 11 snaps in 13 personnel (one-wide) before the fourth quarter. Prior to Sunday, the Eagles had run just 22 plays all season from 13 personnel, with Brown taking 11 of those snaps (50%) and Smith getting eight.
  • RB Tank Bigsby got 13 of his 17 carries in the fourth quarter. He played just 20% of snaps through three quarters, with Saquon Barkley at 75% snap share and 25 of 30 RB opportunities (83%).

  • The Ravens ran just 40 plays, with 22 of them being called runs and six either scrambles/dropbacks. That's how you get to 12 pass attempts (nine in the first half, three in the second half).
  • RBs Derrick Henry and Keaton Mitchell ended up with a fairly even split of carries for the first time, though it looked like a hot-hand decision more so than something that was planned for pre-game. Mitchell broke off a couple of nice runs early and then continued mixing in behind Henry more than usual, while Rasheen Ali's role on passing downs yielded a receiving TD.
    • Mitchell got both of the garbage-time carries right before Baltimore switched to kneel-downs. Not counting those two totes, Henry had an 11-6 advantage, which isn't too far away from the prior norm given that this was an odd game where Baltimore had all of the big plays and Cincinnati dominated possession (to no avail).
    • You're still starting Henry unless your team is obscenely stacked, but the combination of tricky matchups (GB, NE) and Mitchell's increased involvement makes for a rather low floor.
  • WR DeAndre Hopkins was at only 56% route share even with Rashod Bateman (ankle) out.
  • TE Isaiah Likely finished without any targets but ran the same number of routes as Mark Andrews. It appears cold weather and an overrated TE duo were the antidote(s) to Cincy's TE woes.

  • TE Mike Gesicki's production fell off a cliff compared to Week 14, but his playing time actually went in the opposite direction, up to a season-high 71% route share with Noah Fant exiting early due to an ankle injury.
    • Just be aware that the Bengals have generally kept TE as a rotation even when missing a guy or two. The adjustment if Fant misses time won't necessarily be the same as the in-game adjustment. Gesicki is only worth a serious look in most formats if BOTH of Fant and Tee Higgins (head) are out for Week 16.
  • Garbage time gave Samaje Perine a few extra carries, but he also had a major role beforehand, just like the previous two games. Chase Brown is making his living on dump-offs and not much else since Perine returned.
  • WR Andrei Iosivas is not a legitimate NFL starter. I get that you don't need much from that spot when Chase and Higgins are healthy, but it's still nice if the third guy can get open... not to mention Higgins' increasingly horrific medical record.

  • With RB Chris Rodriguez (groin) inactive, Jeremy McNichols got the start and took all four RB carries on the opening drive (for just four drives). After that first drive, Jacory Croskey-Merritt took 18 of 23 RB carries, putting up 18-96-1 on a 63% snap share, albeit with minimal playing time on pass plays (14% route share, zero targets).
    • Jeremy McNichols finished with a 47% snap share and 57% route share, taking 10 of 28 RB opportunities (but just six of 24 after the opening drive). His only touch after halftime was a lost fumble late in the fourth quarter on a play where he got smacked in the backfield (but should've held onto the ball still).
    • In the second half, Croskey-Merritt took 69% of snaps and 10 of 11 RB opps.
  • WR Noah Brown suffered a rib injury and didn't play after the first quarter. He handled an 81% route share the week before in his first game back from a long-term absence.
  • WR Deebo Samuel had a 60% snap share and 81% route share, playing 90% of snaps in 11 personnel but just 30% of snaps in all other groupings. That's been his norm of late, with route shares around 80% despite the snap shares being much lower.
  • TE John Bates nearly doubled Ben Sinnott's snap/route count, with each seeing just one target. Sinnott gained 36 yards on that play, but he also missed a block on the play where McNichols fumbled, perhaps showing why the Commanders don't give him more chances.

  • RB Tyrone Tracy played a season-high 76% of snaps and took 18 of 24 RB opportunities (75%). He also played well — highlighted by a highly impressive run for one of his two TDs — which likely contributed to the larger role at Devin Singletary's expense.
    • Singletary came in for the second drive of the game and the third series of the first half. Other than that, Tracy was playing nearly every snap, only subbing out occasionally after stretches with a bunch of touches.
  • WR Darius Slayton had 164 air yards across 10 targets but finished with just 4-53-0. Isaiah Hodgins got similar playing time but just two targets (minus-four yards).
    • WR Wan'Dale Robinson also had 10 targets and triple-digit air yards, but he was at 4-38-0 with <50 air yards until his late TD. He then saw two incomplete deep targets on the subsequent, final drive.

  • RB D'Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai split work 50/50 in the first half, each getting nine opportunities on 47-53% of snaps, but Swift then took precedent after halftime with a 68% snap share and 10 of 14 RB opportunities, including a 17-yard rushing TD (Swift's second score of the game).
    • Monangai didn't have a fumble or bad penalty that would explain the sudden drop in usage, nor was any injury announced. It is possible he got banged up but was able to continue playing, whereas Swift seems to be healthier now than he was in recent weeks.
  • Garbage time wasn't really a factor here, despite the final score. Cleveland used up the final 7:30 of the game on a lengthy drive. Before that, Chicago still had starters in with a 25-point lead midway through the fourth quarter.
  • WR Rome Odunze aggravated the stress fracture in his foot during pregame warmups.
  • WR Luther Burden led the team in targets (seven) and receiving yards (84) before exiting early with an ankle injury and missing the fourth quarter.
    • Burden looked fantastic, but even before the injury he wasn't quite a full-time player. In the first half, he played 88% of snaps in 11 personnel but just 46% of snaps in 12 personnel and one of eight snaps in 13 personnel (DJ Moore took the other seven).

  • RB Bam Knight injured his ankle on his first snap/carry of the game. He was down for a while and then missed the rest of the game. He'll likely miss time.
    • RB Michael Carter stepped in as the lead back with a 79% snap share and 18 touches for 94 yards, while Emari Demecado got just three touches on 11% of snaps in his first game back from an ankle injury of his own.
      • The split could look different in Demercado's second game back from injury, and there's some chance of Corey Kiner getting more involved. Still, Carter should be a popular fantasy pick-up with not much else out there for those in need of RB help.
  • WR Michael Wilson got massive volume again, with 11 targets and 150 air yards, but it took a remarkable TD grab to save his fantasy day.

  • Five starters left the game early with injuries, including WR Van Jefferson, who was deemed questionable to return after hurting his back during the second half.
  • RB Tony Pollard was held in check for most of the game, before taking three carries for 33 yards and a TD on the penultimate drive. He added a catch on the last drive for good measure, putting up his second-best PPR score of the year (18.2) one week after his high score.
    • Pollard needs 153 rushing yards to reach 1,000 for the season, and I have no doubt the Titans will try to get him there even though he's often disappeared in negative game scripts throughout the year.

  • RB Christian McCaffrey was still getting carries with four minutes left and the 49ers up by 10, but Brian Robinson came in for the last two carries after McCaffrey picked up a first down with three minutes left.
    • Before those last two Robinson carries, McCaffrey had taken 23 of 30 RB opportunities for San Francisco.

  • In addition to losing the game, Green Bay lost four starters to injuries, including a potential ACL tear for Micah Parsons.
  • WR Christian Watson injured his chest/shoulder in the third quarter while trying to catch a deep pass that CB Patrick Surtain intercepted. It didn't look good, and Watson was taken to the hospital, but he was released in short order and cleared to fly home with the Packers.
    • After Watson's exit, Romeo Doubs played 85% of snaps but didn't see a single target. Jayden Reed got 70% of snaps and two targets, with Dontayvion Wicks taking 59% of snaps and two targets, while Matthew Golden got a 48% snap share and three targets.
      • Golden also had an 18-yard catch and 26% snap share before Watson's exit, getting a bit more usage after barely playing in the previous game.
      • Before Watson left, he and Doubs were tied at 69% snap share, ahead of Reed (62%), Wicks (31%) and Golden (26%). Any of them could benefit if Watson misses time, but Reed is the one I'd least hate to put in a Week 16 lineup, followed by Doubs.
  • TE Luke Musgrave put up 4-52-0 while tying for the team lead in targets (six), but John FitzPatrick actually got more snaps and the same route share (53%).

  • RB Rico Dowdle got the start and took 59% of snaps and 17 of 26 RB opportunities (65%), with a clear advantage over Chuba Hubbard after Hubbard had pushed toward about 50% of backfield work in the previous game.
    • That said, Dowdle got seven of his 17 touches (including a four-yard TD run) on the opening drive. After that, it was more of a back-and-forth, with Carolina not having much luck on offense in general. Hubbard took the most important carry of the game on a 4th-and-1 in the fourth quarter, albeit from a FB alignment in front of Dowdle.
      • Hubbard got stuffed, seemingly through no fault of his own. Dave Canales has done good work this season, but the FB dive needs to be a quick-hitter, you're not gonna trick them out of the A gap there. I've never seen a play for the FB where it took so long to get him the darn ball.

  • RB Devin Neal left with a hamstring injury after scoring a four-yard TD in the second quarter. He never returned, after playing 73% of snaps in the first half and handling eight of 11 RB opportunities.
    • In the second half, Evan Hull played 49% of snaps and took three carries for 10 yards, with Audric Estime also getting 49% of snaps and producing 43 yards from one carry and three targets.
      • In other words, they shared playing time close to 50/50, though Estime was busier prior to Neal's early departure.
  • TE Juwan Johnson posted his second-worst snap and route shares of the season, one week after posting season-low marks in both categories. His playing time rebounded, but only a tiny bit, still far from the September-November level.
    • Johnson played just 69% of snaps in 11 personnel, losing work to Foster Moreau. In other words, the lost playing time isn't just due to heavy-formation usage. The PPR scam is up.
  • WR Devaughn Vele missed the fourth quarter with a shoulder injury, which led to Kevin Austin playing 24 of 25 snaps (96%) and putting up 3-33-0 on five targets (after not seeing a target through the first three quarters). Mason Tipton and Chris Olave were also above 90% snap share in the final quarter, with New Orleans mostly in hurry-up mode and going three-wide despite what the final score might seem to suggest.
    • Note that the aforementioned Johnson took only 68% of snaps in the fourth quarter, even though the Saints were passing nearly every play.

  • TE Shane Zylstra returned from IR to take over for Ross Dwelley (waived) in a timeshare with Anthony Firkser. Neither saw any targets, with the Lions somehow managing to get 34 of the 37 targets to their top three guys.
  • WR Isaac TeSlaa saw just one target but tripled Kalif Raymond's snap/route shares.
  • Keep this game in mind for the playoffs (more so for the Rams than the Lions, since Detroit may not even make it). As great as the Rams are, their cornerbacks kind of stink.
  • RB David Montgomery scored a late TD, but don't expect to see him much the next few weeks with the Lions clawing for their lives against some sneaky-tough defenses (PIT, MIN, CHI).

  • WR Davante Adams aggravated his hamstring injury in the fourth quarter and missed the rest of the game. He's unlikely to be ready for Thursday's matchup with Seattle.
    • The Rams used 13 personnel on all but one snap in the fourth quarter, with Puka Nacua and Konata Mumpfield sharing the playing time.
    • Tutu Atwell barely played in his return from a long absence. Jordan Whittington and Xavier Smith were also below 10% snap/route share. It might be that the relevant fantasy "winners" from Adams' upcoming absence are guys like RB Blake Corum and TE Colby Parkinson, not other wide receivers. The 13 personnel usage means they can get away with no WR besides Nacua seeing a lot of targets (though that probably does mean more running the ball).
  • WR Puka Nacua briefly left the game after a collision in the second half, but it reportedly was nothing more than cramping. He returned in short order and got a few more touches, finishing with 9-181-0 and two carries for eight yards.
  • TE Terrance Ferguson got just one target but a big boost in snap/route share, largely due to playing 56% of snaps in 12 personnel.
    • Colby Parkinson, meanwhile, got just 44% of snaps in 11 personnel. Each of his five catches, including the two TDs, came from multi-TE formations. FWIW, it's been normal for Parkinson to share snaps in 11 personnel, but normally with both Davis Allen and Ferguson, whereas this week it was just Ferguson (and Allen only played in multi-TE sets).

  • RB Jordan Mason had a significant role for the second straight week, following a stretch of about a month where he didn't get much work unless Aaron Jones left early with an injury (or the game turned into a blowout).
    • In Sunday's win, Mason took just one snap in the first quarter, but then handled 41% of snaps the rest of the game while actually out-carrying Jones by a 10-8 margin (Jones also had two targets, on 52% snap share).
    • Long story short, Minnesota's backfield was about a 60/40 split these past two weeks, which left Jones with single-digit PPR points even though the Vikings / J.J. McCarthy played much better.
  • The Vikings lost three starters (see below) to injuries in the second half.

  • RB Javonte Williams suffered a shoulder injury during the first quarter and didn't play in the second quarter, but he returned after halftime to take nine of 11 RB carries (but just 32% of snaps and no targets).
    • Malik Davis got 65% of snaps and three targets in the second half, but with only two carries. Six of his eight carries came while Williams was sidelined in the first half.
    • With Dallas now effectively out of the playoff hunt, Williams may not be as keen on playing through an injury (especially on a one-year contract).
