Inks extension through 2027
The Texans signed Schultz (calf) to a one-year, $12.6 million contract extension through the 2027 season, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Schultz's contract now contains $17.6 million guaranteed after he set new career highs in targets (106) and catches (82) last season en route to 777 yards and three touchdowns. A reliable safety blanket over the middle for C.J. Stroud, Schultz should remain atop the Texans' depth chart at tight end next season.

Schultz forwent the opportunity to be the top tight end on the free-agent market for a second consecutive offseason, instead re-signing with the Texans this March on a three-year, $36 million contract. His first year in Houston was similar statistically to Schultz’s last three campaigns in Dallas; the 6-foot-5, 244-pound tight end caught 59 of 88 targets for 635 yards and five touchdowns in 15 appearances for the Texans, after averaging 66 catches for 667 yards and 5.7 TDs from 2020 to 2022. C.J. Stroud led all qualified quarterbacks in passing yards per game as a rookie, and while Schultz finished second on the team in targets, Stroud’s preference for pushing the ball downfield elevated the Texans’ wide receivers more so than their tight ends and running backs. Nonetheless, Schultz has a long track record of success and a skilled quarterback throwing him the ball, which is a recipe for respectable fantasy production even if he's only the fourth option in Houston's passing game behind WRs Nico Collins, Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell.

Added opportunity on tap
Schultz should be in line for an increase in targets during Sunday's divisional-round game against the Patriots due to Nico Collins having been ruled out with a concussion, DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Schultz is already coming off a career-best regular season where he produced a team- and career-high 82 receptions and complemented them with a career-best 777 receiving yards as well. Schultz averaged 6.2 targets per regular-season contest and Collins checked in with a 7.9 figure in that same split, so there's some room for the tight end's role to grow against a Patriots defense that allowed a 72.4 percent catch rate and 57.1 receiving yards per game to his position during the 2025 campaign.
