Stover quietly saw his playing time tick up as his rookie season unfolded, and the 2024 fourth-round draft pick posted four catches for 28 yards in Houston's playoff win over the Chargers, which exceeded Stover's single-game highwater marks in both categories from the regular season. Dalton Schultz sits atop the depth chart heading into 2025, but Stover, who worked his way back from last year's collarbone injury, could make a push to unseat Schultz as the team's primary TE after the starter disappointed with only 532 receiving yards and two TDs in 2024. Several of Stover's primary competitors suffered season-ending injuries or released with an injury settlement -- Brevin Jordan (knee), Dalton Keene (leg) and Irv Smith (ankle) -- and he'll be the primary backup to Schultz in Week 1, when the Texans plan to carry just two natural tight ends. 2024 Fantasy Outlook
Stover caught five touchdowns in each of his last two seasons at Ohio State and produced 576 receiving yards in 2023 before being selected in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft by the Texans. He was a teammate of Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud at Ohio State, but Stover may not get many opportunities to share the field with Stroud in the tight end’s rookie year. Dalton Schultz is locked in atop the depth chart, while Brevin Jordan and Teagan Quitoriano (groin) both performed capably in backup roles. Stover’s name is one to file away in dynasty and keeper leagues, but it’s probably too early to pay much attention to the 6-foot-4, 247-pound TE in redraft formats.
