Stephens signed a three-year, $36 million contract with the Jets in the offseason, and he'll compete with rookie third-round pick Azareye'h Thomas for the outside cornerback spot opposite Sauce Gardner, which was vacated by D.J. Reed's departure. Stephens had at least 70 tackles in three of four seasons with the Ravens and racked up 21 passes defensed over the past two campaigns. Stephens was a limited participant in Thursday's practice with a new neck injury before downgrading to a non-participant in Friday's session. The cornerback will end his season one game short, logging 73 tackles (47 solo) and nine passes defensed over 16 games. With fellow cornerback Qwan'tez Stiggers (knee) also ruled out, either Keidron Smith or Tre Brown will start at cornerback alongside Jordan Clark for Week 18.

The 26-year-old played 1,154 snaps in 2023, ranking third among defensive backs in the NFL. He turned those opportunities into 74 tackles, two interceptions, and a career-best 11 passes defended. Stephens enters a contract year on an upward trajectory and stands to be an every-down player despite Baltimore's defensive coordinator change.
