Amon-Ra St. Brown

26-Year-Old Wide ReceiverWR
Detroit Lions
2025 Fantasy Outlook
St. Brown caught 90 passes as a rookie and has since hit triple digits three straight years, with his combination of crisp route-running and physicality making him one of the league's top possession receivers from both the slot and the perimeter. Deep targets remain few and far between, but that didn't stop him from scoring 10 TDs in 2023 and 12 in 2024. His volume declined some last year, going from 164 targets in 16 games the year before down to 141 targets in 17 games in 2024, but he made up for it with a career-high 81.6 percent catch rate (after landing in the 72-76 percent range each year previously). While that level of efficiency is hard to maintain, St. Brown remains one of the annual favorites to lead his position in catch rate, serving as the top receiver in an offense with elite blocking, solid QB play and an excellent group of weapons. The biggest concern is the departure of offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, who is now head coach for the Bears and has been replaced in Detroit by John Morton. The good news is that Detroit otherwise opted for continuity, returning all but two offensive starters from last season. St. Brown figures to average six or seven catches per game again, but there is risk of a significant drop-off in touchdowns, be it due to inferior playcalling or a larger share of the receiving scores going to Detroit's other standout playmakers (namely WR Jameson Williams, TE Sam LaPorta and RB Jahmyr Gibbs). St. Brown (ankle) brought in six of nine targets for 92 yards in the Lions' 44-30 win over the Cowboys on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
The standout receiver's availability was in question leading up to game day due to the low-ankle sprain he'd suffered on Thanksgiving against the Packers, but St. Brown looked to be free of any limitations while making several noteworthy catches. St. Brown finished second in receptions and receiving yards on the night, while also tying Jameson Williams for the team lead in targets. The fifth-year pro also helped seal Detroit's win via his game-long 37-yard grab with under three minutes remaining, setting up Jahmyr Gibbs' 13-yard touchdown run on the next play. St. Brown has now exceeded 90 receiving yards on five occasions heading into a Week 15 road showdown against the Rams on Sunday, Dec. 14.

2021
St. Brown has upped his production with each passing season since the Lions made him a fourth-round pick in 2021. He finished last year with career highs for catches, yards, targets and touchdowns, finishing Top 5 league-wide in each category. Star rookie TE Sam LaPorta took looks away from Detroit's ancillary pass catchers rather than St. Brown, who accounted for 29.9 percent of the targets in his 16 games, up from 27.7 percent the year before. Only CeeDee Lamb had more yards out of the slot than St. Brown's 604, and only Lamb and Tyreek Hill averaged more yards per route from the perimeter (3.3). While 4.51 speed means he'll always be more of a possession/YAC guy than true deep threat, St. Brown wasn't a complete zero downfield last year, tying for 43rd in targets 20-plus yards downfield (15) and 25th in catches (eight). He finished third among WRs in yards after catch (685) for a second straight year and dropped only two of 164 targets. St. Brown is perhaps the most effective short-area receiver in the league, and it's hard to find downside risk given the situational stability with Detroit bringing back QB Jared Goff and offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.
A 2021 fourth-round pick who went beserk in the second half of his rookie year, St. Brown got it done from start to finish in 2022 and definitively answered any doubts about his Year 1 production. An ankle sprain in late September cost him one game and rendered him ineffective in the next two, yet he finished with 106 catches for 1,161 yards and six touchdowns, with no fewer than four receptions or 49 yards in any of his other 14 appearances. The Lions now hope 2022 first-rounder Jameson Williams can emerge as their primary perimeter weapon after a six-game suspension, but that would still leave a boatload of targets for the primarily slot-based St. Brown given the team's otherwise mediocre depth chart at wide receiver and tight end. The tight ends, in particular, appear to be a weak point after last year's T.J. Hockenson trade, leaving the short passing attack in the hands of St. Brown and running backs David Montgomery and 2023 first-round pick Jahmyr Gibbs. Another 100-catch season is coming so long as St. Brown stays relatively healthy.
St. Brown was perhaps the most unlikely fantasy hero of 2021. His final stat line isn't overwhelming, but he got there by finishing the year with six consecutive games of at least 10 targets, eight catches and 74 yards, scoring six TDs (one rushing) in that stretch. Neither particularly big nor fast, St. Brown nonetheless had some promise ahead of last year's draft, after catching 178 passes for 2,270 yards and 16 TDs in two and a half seasons at USC. He caught 60 passes as a true freshman, consistently earning targets while playing alongside Michael Pittman (and later Drake London). A 4.51 40-yard dash at USC's pro day may have contributed to the notion of St. Brown merely being a slot prospect, but he otherwise put up solid numbers, including a 38.5-inch vertical and 20 bench-press reps. The Lions drafted him early in the fourth round, initially installing him as their slot/third receiver. Eventually, though, his role expanded, with the rookie taking double-digit snaps on the perimeter each game from Week 12 on. He still played the slot, primarily, but the Lions got creative to spice up their otherwise moribund offense, even giving St. Brown seven carries over the final six weeks. He'll have more competition for touches this year, featured alongside running back D'Andre Swift and tight end T.J. Hockenson in the Detroit offense, with veteran wideout DJ Chark and speedy rookie Jameson Williams (coming back from a torn ACL in January) being the wild cards. TBD if St. Brown is still a target hog.
The 112th overall pick in this year's draft, St. Brown landed in a good spot. Not good in the sense he'll be vying for a Super Bowl ring, but he will have a chance to see targets right away in an unsettled passing game. Journeymen Tyrell Williams (who missed all of last year with a shoulder injury) and Kalif Raymond appear to pace the depth chart, while last year's fifth-rounder, the unestablished Quintez Cephus, has mostly worked with backups. At 5-11, 197, St. Brown, like Cephus, has poor timed speed (4.59 40), but still shows explosiveness (38.5-inch vertical, 127-inch broad jump). St. Brown probably projects best as a slot receiver, but he has the strength and physicality to operate on the outside if needed.

Officially game-time decision
WRDetroit Lions
December 3, 2025
St. Brown, who didn't practice this week due to his low-ankle sprain, is officially considered a game-time decision for Thursday's game against the Cowboys, Eric Woodyard of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Despite not engaging in any physical work during Week 14 prep, St. Brown has been remaining engaged with mental reps, per Woodyard. Head coach Dan Campbell left open the possibility of St. Brown suiting up despite the lack of practice reps, saying Tuesday, "If he can play, he'll play." The deciding factor in St. Brown's availability may be his ability to change directions while stopping and cutting without pain and without making matters worse.
