Sunday brought a mighty fine 2-1 start to February, bringing us to +9 units on the year. Just like the additional pounds put on over the holidays, a fat wallet heading into February is critical for insulation during one of the toughest months of the year. Right? Right! Today, we are back to a typical Monday slate, dominated by small conference action with a handful of bigger games tossed in. Let's head to the deep south for today's selections.

Northwestern State Demons vs Nicholls State Colonels
NW State has been up against it all year with a heckuva front-loaded schedule. The opened Southland play with two road games (one of those at McNeese), then finally had a stretch of home games where they beat three teams from the upper half of the conference, only to endure a four-game road trip where they went winless. However, the Demons were very competitive in those games, including a two-point loss at first-place SFA. Now, finally, NW State gets a couple of lower-tier teams at home, starting tonight vs. Nicholls. The Colonels had the opposite schedule, starting off Southland play with a 7-0 record on the backs of the lower-tier teams before losing five straight as competition got stiffer. Nicholls may be without two starters for this one making me like the value on the feisty home dog tonight.
College Basketball Best Bet: Northwestern State +1.5 (FanDuel)

Alcorn State Braves vs Grambling State Tigers
When I first looked at this game, I expected to find overwhelming evidence supporting Grambling. I, however, found the opposite. The Tigers appear to be a bit overrated with the third-highest KenPom ranking in the conference as they are just 1-2 on the road in the SWAC with their win coming Saturday at No. 342 Jackson State, a three-point victory. Alcorn is healthy and pesky, particularly at home, where the Braves are 2-1 with their lone loss coming by a single point against No. 311 Texas Southern. I'm not sure which team will get the victory here, but I do think it will be a very close game.
College Basketball Best Bet: Alcorn State +6.5 (FanDuel)

Texas Tech Red Raiders vs Kansas Jayhawks
I hate the number but I love the spot for the Red Raiders here. Tech is coming of a classic sandwich loss with their road trip to a tough UCF squad mashed between home games against No. 6 Houston and tonight's game against No. 14 Kansas. The Jayhawks have won five straight and are coming in only two days removed from the Darryn Peterson/A.J. Dybantsa hype-train matchup on Saturday. I continue to hold Texas Tech in very high regard and I think we will see a very focused team off their loss in what is KU's toughest road test to date.
College Basketball Best Bet: Texas Tech -4.5 (FanDuel)
