Chergui (hamstring) is set to miss a significant amount of time, coach Stephane Gilli explained in the press conference, according to Le Parisien. "In November, he had already left for international duty. He was just barely fit, but we let him go; we trusted him. Before the second match, he didn't train because he was feeling pain, but he played anyway. He came back injured, and we treated him throughout December before the Africa Cup of Nations. He rejoined his national team just barely fit. He didn't play the first match, but he played the second, during which he injured his other hamstring. I think it would have been better for him to come home, but he stayed there. He trained the day before the match against Nigeria. What started as a minor injury has now taken much longer. I'm a bit upset when players' health is taken lightly. We make them available, but I think national teams also need to respect the health of the players and their clubs. When you send a player and he comes back injured for an extended period, even though it was foreseeable, it's a problem. I'm disappointed for him because he almost missed the AFCON and will miss quite a few matches with us too."
ANALYSIS
Chergui suffered several hamstring injuries in the past months with Algeria and that the club treated to allow him to play the AFCON. The defender wasn't fully fit to play and was risked in the second game of the competition and suffered a new setback that aggravated his injury and injured is other hamstring as well. Chergui is now set to miss a significant amount of time, which will allow Hamari Traore to get a larger role in the backline for the Francilians.
