Schultz defeated Mario Mingaj via submission (Suloev stretch) at 1:51 of Round 1 at Dana White's Contender Series on Tuesday. After the show, he was one of five fighters to be officially awarded a UFC contract.

Schultz took the initiative early, swinging wide power shots until one clipped the chin of his opponent. "Party Time" was able to take the back from there, locking up the hamstring stretch when his opponent tried to shake free. As a three-time All-American wrestler, Schultz is a potentially interesting addition to the middleweight roster.
