Cortez defeated Viviane Araujo via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at UFC 317 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It was the most competent all-around performance we have seen from Cortez in quite some time. She primarily leaned on her wrestling, picking up three takedowns on five attempts and being credited with 8:17 worth of control time. Tracy also had a deep submission attempt at the end of Round 1 and landed the far cleaner strikes throughout the duration of the bout. Cortez has yet to really put it all together with the UFC, but she's 6-1 in her first seven fights with the company and has a September 2023 win over Jasmine Jasudavicius on her ledger, which has aged extremely well. Cortez also beat Erin Blanchfield via split decision back in their Invicta days.
