Injury leads to loss of title
FlyweightUFC
December 6, 2025
Pantoja lost the UFC Flyweight Championship on Saturday, falling to Joshua Van via TKO (injury) at 0:26 of Round 1 at UFC 323 in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
An absolute crushing set of circumstances for the 35-year-old now former champion. Pantoja threw a head kick just seconds into the fight which Van blocked. As Pantoja fell to the mat in an attempt to brace himself, his arm appeared to snap near the elbow. It was a graphic injury that was difficult to watch upon replay. The Brazilian entered having won eight in a row and was without a setback dating back to July 2020. Pantoja will almost certainly be thrust right back into a title fight upon returning to full health, but this had the look of a long-term ailment.

To face Van
FlyweightUFC
October 13, 2025
Pantoja will defend his UFC Flyweight Championship against Joshua Van at UFC 323 on Dec. 6, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Pantoja will look to defend his title a fourth time, facing the 24-year-old Van, who's gone 8-1 since debuting in June of 2023. Pantoja hasn't had many difficulties in his past two title defenses, earning a pair of victories via submission. Van may very well be the future of the division given his youth, but Pantoja's dominant run as champion means he likely enters as the betting favorite.
Another easy title defense
FlyweightUFC
June 28, 2025
Pantoja successfully defended the UFC Flyweight Championship on Saturday, defeating Kai Kara-France via submission (rear-naked choke) at 1:55 of Round 3 at UFC 317 in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It was a dominant win from the champion, who was in control the entire way. Seemingly not worried about the power of Kara-France, Pantoja remained aggressive on the feet, forcing his way into three successful takedowns on six attempts. KKF defended well for a while, but Pantoja was able to slip an arm under the neck early in Round 3, and the fight was over seconds later. It was Pantoja's fourth successful title defense and his eighth straight win overall. He hasn't lost a fight since July 2020. Next up for the Brazilian is Joshua Van, who took a war from Brandon Royval earlier in the evening. The UFC brought Van into the Octagon to go toe-to-toe with Pantoja following the fight, so that matchup would appear to be a done deal.
Set for another defense
FlyweightUFC
May 13, 2025
Pantoja will defend his flyweight title against Kai Kara-France at UFC 317 on June 28, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Pantoja has successfully defended his flyweight title three times in a row, and he's set for a fourth consecutive defense as the co-main event in a card that also includes the matchup between Ilia Topuria vs. Charles Oliveira. Pantoja has won his last seven fights in a row and is clearly the man to defeat in the flyweight division at the moment.
Third successful title defense
FlyweightUFC
December 7, 2024
Pantoja successfully defended his UFC Flyweight Championship on Saturday, defeating Kai Asakura via submission (rear-naked choke) at 2:05 of Round 2 at UFC 310 in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Pantoja's third title defense was his easiest to date. Facing a debuting opponent who hadn't fought in the weight class since 2017, the Brazilian got the better of the action in Round 1 before expertly finishing Asakura off on the mat in Round 2. The back take and rear-naked choke which closed the show were a thing of beauty, and would go on to earn him a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus. Pantoja will be 35 years of age in April, but he appears to be legitimately improving. It's rare, but not completely unheard of. Almost every fight at flyweight is tightly contested. The fact Pantoja has won seven in a row against the best competition in the world dating back to February 2021 is something else.
Scheduled against Asakura
FlyweightUFC
October 12, 2024
Pantoja will fight Kai Asakura at UFC 310 on Dec. 7, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Pantoja has won six consecutive fights and will now look to defend his flyweight title for the third consecutive time against Asakura, who will be making his UFC debut.
