Montreal Canadiens
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Hutson was impressive in his 2024-25 rookie season, producing six goals and 66 points in 82 games before adding five helpers in five playoff appearances. In fact, it was so impressive that Hutson took home the Calder Memorial Trophy as the NHL’s top rookie. The 21-year-old blueliner led the Canadiens with 60 assists and ranked second on the team with 26 power-play points. Hutson led all NHL rookies in points, assists, power-play points and average ice time (22:44). He also earned 123 blocked shots but had only 91 shots on net. He needs to shoot more to increase his fantasy value, but Huston’s offensive potential will make him an intriguing option in all formats during the 2025-26 campaign. Read Past Outlooks

Three-point burst Friday
DMontreal Canadiens
March 6, 2026
Hutson scored a power-play goal on two shots, dished two assists and went plus-2 in Friday's 6-5 shootout loss to the Ducks.
ANALYSIS
Hutson had gone six contests without a multi-point effort, though he still got on the scoresheet in five of them. He played a key role in this high-scoring game, scoring in the first period and setting up both of Cole Caufield's tallies as part of a rally in the third. Hutson is up to 11 goals, 63 points (18 on the power play), 96 shots on net, 96 blocked shots and a plus-24 rating over 61 appearances. His 66-point rookie campaign was no fluke -- Hutson is among the best offensive defensemen in the league at just 22 years old.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
Hutson made his NHL debut last season, suiting up in the final two games of the regular season in which he recorded two assists, three shots and one hit while averaging 22:43 of ice time. Looking ahead to the upcoming campaign, the 20-year-old blueliner should be a full-time roster player for the Habs and could even see time with the No. 2 power-play unit. During his two-year stint at Boston University, the Michigan-born defenseman put his offensive upside on full display with 30 goals and 67 helpers in 77 outings. If he can translate that to the NHL level, Hutson could be in the mix for a rookie campaign similar to that of New York's Adam Fox, who notched eight goals and 34 helpers in 70 appearances back in 2019-20.

Undecided about World Championship
DMontreal Canadiens
May 2, 2025
Hutson has not decided as to whether he will represent the United States at the upcoming 2025 IIHF World Hockey Championship in Sweden, Eric Engels of Sportsnet reports Friday.
ANALYSIS
Hutson had an outstanding year for the Canadiens with six goals and 60 assists across 82 regular-season games, and he contributed five assists over five playoff contests versus Washington. Hutson is the favorite to win the Calder Trophy, and the 21-year-old blueliner may need to rest after a long campaign.
