February is here, and so is a light Sunday of NHL action. Three games are on the docket with the first one starting at 3 p.m. EST. It's a new month and another opportunity for DFS success. Onto the lineup recommendations!
SLATE PREVIEW
Three of these teams are on the second day of a back-to-back. Two of them - the Hurricanes and Kings - will play each other in Carolina. Meanwhile, the Golden Knights are in Anaheim to face the Ducks. Though neither the Lightning nor the Bruins skated on Saturday, this is an outdoor matchup in Tampa that's different than the normal NHL matchup.
GOALIE
Lukas Dostal, ANA vs. VGK ($7,300): Dostal is in fine form as of late with a 1.81 GAA and .934 save percentage from his last seven starts. The Golden Knights may be at the edges of the top-10 in goals per game, but they also played Saturday and will be on the road for Sunday, which is favorable enough for Dostal.
VALUE PLAY
Seth Jarvis, CAR vs. LOS ($6,800): When selecting a player who's on the second leg of a back-to-back, look for someone who's young and gets a lot of power-play time. Jarvis continues to average over three minutes while up a man and is set to notch over 15 PPPs for the third straight season. The Kings will also be on a second consecutive day and far from home while maintaining a bottom-10 penalty kill.
FORWARD LINE STACK
Ducks vs. Golden Knights
Ryan Poehling (C - $4,400), Troy Terry (W - $6,100), Chris Kreider (W - $5,300)
Though Vegas is top-five in shots allowed and around the top-10 in penalty-kill percentage, it's the only team on the second leg of a back-to-back facing a rested side. There are also questions regarding their goaltending situation as projected starter Adin Hill hasn't done great since returning by posting a 4.15 GAA and .832 save percentage across five starts. This may be a veteran line on a young club, but they should be able to produce in this matchup.
Poehling's first year as a Duck has been a struggle at times, but he's moved up the lineup and the production has come via four points through six matchups. Terry is expected to come back, and he was doing well before getting hurt with 42 points and 103 shots. Kreider's debut season in Anaheim has gone better than Poehling's at 17 goals with at least four shots during each of his last three outings.
DEFENSEMAN
Jacob Trouba, ANA vs. VGK ($5,600): Let's stick with another well-seasoned Anaheim player. Trouba has averaged 22:35 on the season while exceeding 100 shots and 100 blocked shots. He's also recorded four points from his last nine games. And as just mentioned, the Golden Knights are on their second game in as many days while Adin Hill has struggled to an .832 save percentage across his last five appearances.
