Extension talks underway
Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said Wednesday that the team has already "been in contact" with Kraft (ACL) regarding a potential contract extension, Wes Hodkiewicz of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Kraft said in mid-January that he's ahead of schedule in his recovery from a right ACL tear suffered in early November and that he expects to be ready for Week 1 of the 2026 campaign. Across eight-regular season appearances prior to his knee injury, Kraft had emerged as Green Bay's leading receiver with a 32-489-6 line (44 targets), putting him on the trajectory not only for a career-best season, but also a high-end fantasy finish. The 25-year-old tight end currently is entering the final year of his rookie deal, but it appears the Packers may prioritize agreeing to terms on a long-term extension before then. Gutekunst noted that Kraft is "a really important part of this football team" and provides a positive impact "not only as a player but as a leader."

Past Fantasy Outlooks

2023
Kraft was drafted 78th overall by the Packers in 2023, 36 picks after fellow tight end Luke Musgrave. Kraft spent most of the season backing up Musgrave, but the rookie out of South Dakota State stepped up when Musgrave missed six games down the stretch due to a lacerated kidney, catching 23 of 30 targets for 281 yards and two touchdowns over the six-week span. In 13 other games, including two playoff contests, Kraft had 98 receiving yards and one TD. Both tight ends are likely to play prominent roles in 2024, seemingly limiting one another’s fantasy upside. Neither Kraft nor Musgrave finished top four on the Packers in targets last season, and even their combined total (86) over 1,089 snaps would've ranked only 14th among individual tight ends. Jordan Love has the potential to elevate Green Bay’s passing game, but his targets likely will be spread around between the two tight ends and three or four wide receivers. It doesn't help Kraft's cause that a torn pectoral has him on the sideline for offseason practices and may even threaten his availability for training camp.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could get extension
Kraft might be a candidate to receive a contract extension from the Packers this offseason, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The tight end isn't eligible for free agency until 2027, but he'd emerged as Jordan Love's most reliable pass catcher this season until his campaign was cut short by a torn ACL, and he's caught 13 touchdowns in 25 regular-season games over the last two years. Getting Kraft secured to a long-term extension this offseason would allow Green Bay to focus its efforts on deciding whether to bring back wide receiver Romeo Doubs as well, with Doubs set to become a free agent this offseason.
