Restructures contract
Hockenson (shoulder) and the Vikings agreed to a restructured contract Saturday that lowers his cap number for the 2026 season by $5 million, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Minnesota continues to get closer to cap compliance with this move, getting Hockenson's league-high $21.3 million cap hit (among tight ends) down to a more palatable $16.3 million, per Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com. Hockenson missed the final two games of the 2025 regular season due to a shoulder injury, finishing it with 51 catches (on 66 targets) for 438 yards and three touchdowns in 15 appearances. He and Josh Oliver (ankle) will continue to operate as the Vikings' top two tight ends in the upcoming campaign.

There are two major question marks surrounding Hockenson heading into the 2024 season. The first is health, with the 27-year-old in danger of missing the early part of the season after tearing the ACL and MCL in his right knee Dec. 26. Hockenson underwent surgery in late January, and even an optimistic nine-month recovery timetable wouldn't have him ready for Week 1. It will presumably take even longer to get back to his impressive pre-injury production, especially given the other cloud hanging over Hockenson's fantasy forecast: the questionable efficacy of new Vikings QB Sam Darnold. Prior to the injury last year, Hockenson was having his best fantasy season yet, and even after a pair of missed games he finished second among tight ends in targets (127) and catches (95) and fourth in yards (960). That production included 42 catches for 482 yards and two TDs in seven games after Cousins tore his Achilles tendon Week 8, with Hockenson continuing to shine in an offense that still had plenty of passing volume but lesser efficiency. Unfortunately, we may not see that version of him again until late 2024 or even 2025.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Might be cut loose
The Vikings could choose to cut Hockenson this offseason, Aaron Schatz of ESPN suggests.
ANALYSIS
It's difficult to evaluate the Vikings' pass catchers from 2025 due to inconsistent quarterback play. Hockenson was among the players seemingly affected, as he averaged only 8.6 yards per catch --- the lowest mark of his career -- while also posting his lowest yardage total since his rookie campaign. He has two years remaining on his current contract with a total cap hit of $44.7 million, and cutting him would only result in a $12.5 million dead cap hit for the team.
