Ray Davis

One might look at Davis' statistics from his 2024 rookie campaign and conclude he was ineffective compared to fellow Bills running backs James Cook and Ty Johnson, but the numbers don't tell the entire story. At 5-foot-9, 220, Davis is the power specialist of the trio, meaning he took on a lot of thankless work while Cook and Johnson got more touches in space. While Davis faced a light box on just 22.1 percent of his carries, Cook and Johnson checked in at 42.5 and 31.7 percent, respectively. Davis averaged just 3.9 yards per carry for the season, but he posted at least 4.3 YPC in each of his three games with double-digit carries -- and his 19 rookie-year targets yielded a 17-189-3 receiving line. He was especially impressive against the Jets in Week 6, gaining 152 yards on 23 touches (58 percent snap share) while Cook sat with a toe injury. As much as Cook is the clear RB1 in Buffalo, and as much as Johnson presses Davis' margins even further, it's arguably Davis who would be best suited to a workhorse role if injuries forced the team's hand at some point.
