2025 Fantasy Outlook
Considering his QB2 ADP, Mahomes was one of the biggest fantasy busts at the position last season. He finished at a career-low QB12, but that doesn't do justice to the situation. In the first six games, he had a 6:8 TD:INT and averaged less than 14 fantasy points per game, 24th among QBs. He recovered to post a 20:3 TD:INT in his last 10 games, but even in that span he had five games with no more than 16 fantasy points. Only four times all season did he top 20 points. A lack of downfield passing made fantasy life tough for Mahomes. Just 7.1 percent of his attempts traveled beyond 20 yards, 33rd of 36 qualified QBs. Only 26.0 percent even went past 10 yards (34th), and only Tua Tagovailoa threw behind the line of scrimmage at a higher rate than Mahomes (26.9 percent). The result was a career-low 6.3-yard average target depth (34th) and a career-low 6.8 YPA (26th). In fairness, Mahomes' options were limited. Rashee Rice and Hollywood Brown combined for six games played; rookie Xavier Worthy had one of the highest rates in the league for WR screens; and 35-year-old Travis Kelce doesn't get up the seam like he used to. The pass catchers should be better this season, but if the majority of Mahomes' attempts are going to come within five yards of the line of scrimmage, he needs to get much more efficient, i.e., a higher completion rate (67.5, 10th) and more yards per completion (10.0, 31st), or he needs something like 650 attempts. Otherwise, it's hard to see how he gets back in the Top 5 of fantasy QBs. Read Past Outlooks

Hopes to be ready for Week 1
Mahomes, who underwent surgery in mid-December to repair the ACL and LCL ligaments in his left knee, said Thursday during a Zoom call that his injury rehab is "hitting all the checkpoints," the Associated Press reports.
ANALYSIS
With that in mind, Mahomes continues to target being ready for the start of the 2026 regular season, but given the timing of the QB's injury, such an outcome is hardly a lock. "I want to be ready for Week 1. The doctors said I could," Mahomes noted Thursday, "but I can't predict what happens throughout the process. That's the goal, to play Week 1 and have no restrictions. You want to be out there healthy and give us the best chance to win. I hope to do some things in OTAs and training camp and be able to do things there."

After ranking as a top-5 fantasy quarterback four of his five years as a starter (twice as No. 1), Mahomes fell to a career-low QB8 last season. He got little help from his wide receivers, who struggled to stretch the field and dropped a league-high 28 passes -- 12.0 percent of catchable targets. A quarter of Mahomes’ attempts were at or behind the line of scrimmage and two-thirds were within 10 yards of the line, both career highs, as his average target depth dropped to a career-low 6.5 yards and his YPA followed suit at 7.0. Mahomes also saw a predictable decrease in red-zone pass attempts after the previous season's NFL-record 123, which led to 10 fewer TD passes inside the 20-yard line. Having perhaps the greatest tight end in NFL history covers a lot of ills, however, and Mahomes will again have Travis Kelce as his favorite target this season. No. 1 WR Rashee Rice, who came on strong late last year, could be suspended, but the team signed fleet-footed Marquise Brown and drafted Xavier Worthy, a first-round pick who ran a 4.21 40 at the Combine -- the fastest since at least 2003. That’s likely a better group than Mahomes had to begin last year, which, coupled with positive regression in red-zone attempts and rushing scores (none last season), has him poised for a return to the top 5 among fantasy quarterbacks.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Reunited with Bieniemy
The Chiefs hired Eric Bieniemy to be the new offensive coordinator Wednesday, a position he held for five seasons prior to leaving in 2023, Nate Taylor of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes played his best football with Bieniemy as the offensive coordinator, with the former winning league MVP in 2022. The Chiefs' offense never ranked lower than sixth in points per game during Bieniemy's tenure, but Mahomes' production over the last three years under OC Matt Nagy notably dipped. Bieniemy will be tasked with getting the most out of talented skill position players such as Xavier Worthy, Rashee Rice and Isiah Pacheco while having to maneuver around the potential retirement of tight end Travis Kelce.
