Phillips agreed to a four-year, $120 million contract with the Panthers on Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips' massive new contract won't be finalized until the new league year begins Wednesday. Carolina is banking on a return to form for Miami's 2021 first-round pick, as Phillips had just 6.0 sacks in 21 games split between Miami and Philadelphia over the past two regular seasons after notching at least 6.5 sacks in each of his first three campaigns with the Dolphins.

Phillips, a 2021 first-round pick, was putting together a career year before tearing his ACL in Week 12 of the 2023 campaign. The Dolphins have picked up the fifth-year option of Phillips' rookie deal, keeping him under contract for two more seasons, but it would be reasonable to anticipate him getting off to a slow start in 2024. That could be true for much of Miami's defensive front, with Bradley Chubb also working his way back from an ACL tear, but once both are back to full health, they should be able to bring some serious pressure up front against opposing offenses.
Phillips has quickly proven why the Dolphins selected him in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, as he's picked up an impressive 15.5 sacks across his first two seasons as a pro. He took a significant step forward in his sophomore campaign from a role perspective, as he increased his snap total from 594 to 796 while playing in all 17 games. This could be the year he surpasses 1,000 snaps as a true every-down player, which in turn should help his production across the board. Phillips is a prime breakout candidate.
Phillips has a somewhat concerning collegiate injury history, particularly with reference to concussions, but he should take on an immediate starting role in Miami as long as he can stay healthy. The Dolphins are hoping to have finally found a premier defensive end in the 22-year-old.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
No. 3 on list of top free agents
LBPhiladelphia Eagles
February 23, 2026
Phillips is listed third among potential free agents available this offseason, as ranked by Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com.
ANALYSIS
Only potential starting QB Malik Willis and second-team All-Pro wide receiver George Pickens wound up ahead of him. Phillips only recorded 5.0 sacks in 2025 between the Dolphins and Eagles, but he played 17 regular-season games plus one playoff game for Philadelphia, an important show of health after he managed to suit up for only 12 games combined between 2023-24. At 26 years old, Phillips should still have productive years ahead of him as an edge rusher, and he led that position group on Rosenthal's list ahead of Trey Hendrickson and Odafe Oweh.
