Agrees to two-year deal with Bucs
Anzalone (concussion) agreed to a two-year, $17 million contract with the Buccaneers on Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Anzalone's deal can be made official when the new league year begins Wednesday. He has recovered from a concussion that sidelined him down the stretch in 2025. The 31-year-old linebacker had 95 tackles in 16 games for the Lions prior to the injury in 2025, and he notched 490 tackles across five regular seasons in Detroit after posting only 123 tackles in his first four NFL regular seasons with the Saints.

Anzalone is coming off of an impressive 2023 campaign with the Lions, securing a career-high 129 tackles (85 solo), including 6.0 sacks, while also deflecting six passes and recovering a fumble over 16 games. The 29-year-old operated as the team's primary middle linebacker last season and likely will remain in that role, working alongside fellow linebackers Jack Campbell and Derrick Barnes in 2024. Anzalone has averaged 127 tackles per campaign while playing nearly 2,000 defensive snaps over the last two years in Detroit, making him a safe bet for consistent production again this season.

Could follow coach to New York
Anzalone might be headed to the Jets this offseason, Tony Pauline of Essentially Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
The veteran linebacker is set to become a free agent this offseason, and the Lions aren't expected to make much of an effort to retain the 31-year-old. Anzalone could instead look to reunite with Aaron Glenn with the Jets, as New York's head coach was his defensive coordinator in Detroit. Glenn may not have much job security after a rough 2025 debut with the Jets, but Anzalone may only be looking for a short-term contract at this stage of his career.
