2025 Fantasy Outlook
If you just associate power and speed with upside with little consideration for a player's hit tool, Jones is a great prospect to roster in dynasty leagues. However, if you come at the idea of "upside" with a bit more nuance, Jones' flaws are almost as glaring as his strengths, and he projects to hit well below .250 in the majors. His 36.8 percent strikeout rate in 2024 was the highest mark among all qualified Double-A hitters, and he was only seven months younger than the average pitcher he faced. He slashed .259/.336/.452 with a .401 BABIP, 17 home runs and 25 steals in 122 games, and his production picked up (although his strikeout rate remained too high) as the level of competition got watered down later in the year. While Jones' raw power and speed are impressive, the 6-foot-6 lefty slugger's strikeout issues limit his realistic upside, especially in batting average leagues. Read Past Outlooks
Added to 40-man roster
The Yankees selected Jones' contract from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Jones totaled 35 home runs and 29 steals with a .933 OPS between Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Double-A Somerset last year, though that was accompanied by a 35.3 percent strikeout rate. The 24-year-old is one of the organization's top prospects and could make his MLB debut in 2026, but he may have a difficult time cracking the lineup depending on how the Yankees' offseason unfolds.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
A 6-foot-6 left-handed slugger with long strides on the bases and in the outfield, Jones' hit tool will be the swing skill. He has been handled with kid gloves since the Yankees selected him with the No. 25 overall pick in 2022, never getting an aggressive assignment and only playing 17 games at Double-A to close out his age-22 season. He had a 29 percent strikeout rate at High-A and a 28.2 percent strikeout rate at Double-A. Jones hasn't shown pronounced lefty/righty splits, so he will either be an everyday player who hits for 30-plus homer power with 10-20 steals or he won't hit enough to play regularly in the majors. He profiles best in left field, which puts even more pressure on his bat. Given his age (turns 23 in May), he won't get the benefit of the doubt if he struggles in a return to Double-A.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Was essentially untouchable
The Yankees wouldn't have considered trading Jones at the deadline last week unless it was a deal for Paul Skenes, reports Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
ANALYSIS
New York was reportedly willing to include Jones in trades for the likes of ace pitchers Garrett Crochet or Tarik Skubal, but the organization's list of approved targets was apparently just one name. The 24-year-old outfielder was bumped up to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in late June and has been tearing the cover off the ball since the promotion, as he has a .353/.431/.794 slash line with 13 homers and 11 steals through just 26 games. Despite that dominance, Jones may not debut in 2025 given the Yankees' crowded outfield, especially with Aaron Judge now back from his elbow injury.
