2026 Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
The veteran outfielder was sidelined for nearly the first two months of 2025 while finishing up his rehab from ACL surgery, and he hit the ground running with three homers in his first eight contests after making his season debut in late May. Acuna also missed some time midseason due to a calf strain but returned for the final six weeks of the campaign with no apparent issues. Acuna ended up playing in 95 games and totaled 21 home runs, nine stolen bases, 42 RBI and 74 runs scored with a .290/.417/.518 slash line. The steals total is particularly notable given that Acuna tallied 73 stolen bases during his last full season in 2023, but it's not a major surprise that he was limited on the basepaths in his first year back from knee surgery. Availability remains a bit of a concern since the outfielder has played 100 games in a season just twice in the past five years. Acuna is entering his age-28 campaign and could be one of the top fantasy players in baseball in 2026, but he'll need to stay healthy and ramp his activity on the basepaths back up. Looks like old self Friday
Acuna went 2-for-3 with a walk, a grand slam, two additional runs scored and two stolen bases in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Red Sox.
Analysis
The star outfielder clubbed his first homer of the spring with the bases loaded in the third inning off minor leaguer Steven Brooks, one of four long balls by Atlanta on the day. Power display aside, it was Acuna's activity on the basepaths that might be the most important takeaway for fantasy GMs -- while the 28-year-old didn't run much last season after May 2024 surgery to repair a torn ACL, he's just a couple years removed from becoming the first player in MLB history to join the 40-70 club in 2023, stealing 73 bags in 87 attempts to go along with 41 homers, 106 RBI, 149 runs, a .337/.416/.596 slash line and NL MVP honors.

First off the board in nearly all drafts last spring, Acuna suffered a complete tear of the ACL in his left knee in late May, ending his season. President of baseball operations Alex Anthopoulos said in November that Acuna is unlikely to be ready for Opening Day in 2025, and he had previously indicated the outfielder's absence could extend into June on the lengthier end of his timetable. Acuna's numbers were down virtually across the board before the injury, as he managed just four homers in 222 plate appearances while his strikeout rate more than doubled to 23.9%. He dealt with meniscus irritation in his right knee in spring training, which could explain some of the issues. A four-time All-Star and former MVP entering his age-27 season, Acuna is on a Hall of Fame trajectory, but the fact that he tore both ACLs in the span of three years has to bring into question his durability and the sustainability of his production, at least to the levels we've seen so far in his career. It may be best to set expectations closer to 2022 when he was coming off his prior knee repair surgery.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Atlanta not considering trade
According to Jim Bowden of The Athletic, Atlanta has "no interest or plans" to trade Acuna and won't consider any trade offers.
Analysis
Atlanta has a disappointing 40-51 record with just four games remaining before the All-Star break, so trade rumors have naturally started to circulate. Acuna missed the start of the season while completing his rehab from a torn ACL in his left knee, but he's been electric since making his season debut in late May with 11 homers, four steals and a .336/.454/.601 slash line in 41 games. The 27-year-old is under team control for three more seasons after 2025 for just $51 million, and Atlanta would understandably rather retain the superstar instead of trying to cash in that affordable contract via trade.
