Max Clark

21-Year-Old OutfielderOF
Detroit Tigers AA
2026 Fantasy Outlook
It rarely works out this way, but Clark has been almost exactly as advertised in pro ball since the Tigers selected him with the No. 3 overall pick in 2023. He has four plus tools: hit, run, arm, field. That leaves the power, which has always been his weakest tool, but he slugged .439 with a .187 ISO as a 20-year-old at Double-A to finish off the 2025 season, so he's no slouch in that department, and he figures to maximize his power potential due to the quality of his hit tool. All told, Clark slashed .271/.403/.432 with 14 home runs, 19 steals, a 17.6 percent walk rate and a 16.9 percent strikeout rate in 111 games split between High-A and Double-A. The lefty-hitting Clark had a .333 slugging percentage in 105 at-bats against southpaws, but he still got on base at a .406 clip and his defense should keep him in the lineup, although perhaps in the bottom third, against same-handed pitching. Clark stole 19 bases on 21 attempts after stealing 29 bases on 33 attempts in 2024, so while his success rate was stellar, he didn't run as much in 2025 as most would have expected. He has never played at Triple-A, but after logging a 135 wRC+ and 16.7 percent strikeout rate at Double-A, Clark may not need much time at Triple-A before the Tigers hand him the keys in center field. Analysis
This was the expected outcome for the top prospect, who has yet to appear above the Double-A level and is still only 21 years old. While Clark went just 2-for-18 with five strikeouts in Grapefruit League play, he still managed to impress manager A.J. Hinch with his preparation and attention to detail, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. Clark will likely see time at both the Double-A and Triple-A levels this season, and he could force himself up to the majors if he plays well in the minors, though he'll need to be added to the 40-man roster first.

Past Fantasy Outlooks

2024
Clark came into the 2023 draft with a common skill set for premium prep center fielders: plus hit, plus-plus speed, questionable power. He hit .261 with 16 steals and two home runs over his first 47 games at Single-A last year and hit .292 with 13 steals and seven homers in his last 60 games, which included 34 games at High-A to close his age-19 season. Just that small power bump is enough to suggest Clark will be at least a 15-20 homer threat at peak, which should allow for him to be a leadoff or No. 2 hitter who contributes in all five categories. If he were to access another level as a power hitter, we could be talking about a No. 1 overall prospect in the Corbin Carroll mold, but as things stand, Clark projects for a Starling Marte type of career. He should debut sometime in 2026.
Clark was widely considered one of five elite real-life prospects at the top of last year's draft, but after everyone's pro debuts, he isn't an elite first-year player draft target in dynasty leagues relative to the other four prospects in that consensus top five. A 70-grade runner with elite defensive tools and a hit tool that got 70-grade projections by some scouts when he was an amateur, Clark's power is his one tool that lags behind. He slashed .224/.383/.377 with two home runs, five steals, a 19.6 percent walk rate and a 23.4 percent strikeout rate in 23 games split evenly between the Florida Complex League and Single-A. Meanwhile, the two outfielders selected directly behind him, Wyatt Langford and Walker Jenkins put up video game numbers at every level they played at. There's nothing overly concerning about Clark's plate discipline, but it's still to be determined how much of an impact he'll make and whether he will hit for a very high average or just post high OBPs via a selective approach. Clark figures to have a long, productive big-league career, but he probably needs to be a speed maven to turn into a fantasy difference maker.
