Two-time series champion Newgarden earned his first victory of the season and 33rd of his illustrious career by hunting down and passing leader Kyle Kirkwood with seven laps remaining to win the Good Ranchers 250 on Saturday at Phoenix Raceway, IndyCar.com reports.

ANALYSIS
Newgarden started on the outside pole and raced within the Top 10 for most of the event. A late caution would set up pit stops and Newgarden would take advantage. His car would come to life in the final stint on fresh tires and he'd track down and pick off the leaders one-by-one in the closing laps. Newgarden would pass Kirkwood for the lead with just 6 laps to go and run away to grab his first victory of the season.
