Driving for HMS at Phoenix
NASCAR Cup
March 5, 2026
Alfredo will drive the No. 48 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports in Sunday's Cup Series race at Phoenix Raceway, Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Alex Bowman was diagnosed with vertigo this week and will be unable to compete in Sunday's race. Bowman was forced to get out of the car in Stage 3 of last week's race at Circuit of the Americas due to illness. Alfredo is the Hendrick Motorsports sim driver, so he has experience working closely with the team. Alfredo also races full-time in the O'Reilly Auto Parts Series for Viking Motorsports. It will be a double-duty weekend for Alfredo and a golden opportunity for him to potentially earn a look in a better seat in 2027 if he runs well this week.

Alfredo is on the move again for 2024. He returns to the Our Motorsports team that he departed at the conclusion of 2022. He'll pilot the team's No. 5 Chevrolet Camaro and look to regain some of the competitive edge he had with this team a couple seasons ago. Alfredo nabbed four Top-10 finishes and would register 15th in the final driver standings with Our Motorsports in 2022, and there's no reason to believe he cannot elevate back to that level of racing. The crew chief for his car has not been named at the time of this writing, so that's a pretty major detail still up in the air. Alfredo has been paired with Pat Tryson the last two seasons, and there's a reasonably good expectation that this will continue in 2024. He's been most consistent on the intermediate and larger ovals, and that should remain the case.
Alfredo moves from Our Motorsports to B.J. McLeod Motorsports in 2023. He's been signed to drive the No. 78 entry which was piloted by Josh Williams and a number of other drivers last season. The conglomerate wasn't very effective or performance-filled, so it's hoped that Alfredo's steady presence behind the wheel will significantly boost this team's performance. Alfredo collected four Top-10 finishes last season and ended the campaign a respectable 15th-place for Our Motorsports, so there's good potential with this journeyman driver. He'll be paired with veteran crew chief Pat Tryson and the two should have little trouble making headway early in the 2023 season.
Unfortunately, after just one season at NASCAR's top level, things would not work out for Alfredo. His cup of coffee with Front Row Motorsports amounted to just one Top-10 finish and a distant 30th-place finish in the final driver standings of 2021. Fortunately for the 22-year-old driver, things would work out reasonably well for the upcoming season. Alfredo signed a contract in December of last year to compete in the growing stable of Our Motorsports in the Xfinity Series. He will pilot the team's No. 23 Chevrolet and be paired with veteran crew chief, Pat Tryson. It's a great situation for the talented driver to land on his feet. Still, the newness of this expanding race team and the lack of experience racing in this division of NASCAR (just 19 starts) cause us to be a bit reserved about too high expectations for Alfredo.
While not confirmed at the time of this writing, Alfredo has been widely rumored to be in contract discussions with Front Row Motorsports. Should these rumors be true, the youngster would take over the No. 38 Ford that John Hunter Nemechek piloted last season. Nemechek drove this car to three Top-10 finishes and a 27th-place points finish in 2020, so there is some modest potential. Nemechek departed for the Camping World Truck Series so this ride is available to the next young talent willing to take on the task. Alfredo has spent the last three seasons quickly moving up the ranks from the ARCA Menards Series all the way up to the Xfinity Series last season. The 21-year-old driver collected nine Top-10 finishes in just 19 starts for Richard Childress in that division of NASCAR. The level of talent is pretty obvious, and this team's potential is well established. However, with zero Cup Series starts to his credit, Alfredo's learning curve will be steep.
This three driver team will consist primarily of Snider and Alfredo's efforts. While at the time of this writing the number of starts has not been announced, it would make sense that Snider gets the majority of the starts. Alfredo signed with the team last December and will likely start about a third of the schedule. Cup Series veteran Dillon will only make a couple starts for this race team. The No. 21 RCR Chevrolet team has a strong recent history and good resources. Snider and Alfredo's lack of experience in Xfinity cars is a bit concerning, but this strong race team should help ease this transition for both. They should get stronger as the season wears on.
