Still searching for first UFC win

McVey lost to Zachary Reese via submission (rear-naked choke) at 1:38 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It's a low bar, but McVey looked considerably better here than in his first-round submission defeat to Brunno Ferreira in his company debut this past July. He controlled Reese for a good portion of Round 1 by staying aggressive and dominating from the clinch position. Yet, once Reese went to his grappling late in the opening frame, McVey was done. He can't defend a takedown and seemingly has zero awareness in terms of submission defense. Should McVey get another shot with the company, which is far from guaranteed, he'll be fighting for his job his next time out.

Gets new opponent
MiddleweightUFC
November 5, 2025
McVey will now take on Zachary Reese in a middleweight bout at UFC Vegas 111 on Nov. 8, per Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
McVey was initially scheduled to face Robert Valentin, but the latter has pulled out for currently undisclosed reasons. Now, he'll get a new opponent on extremely short notice. Reese is 3-2 in the UFC and is coming off a no contest caused by an accidental foul in his last bout against Sedriques Dumas.

McVey will fight Robert Valentin at UFC Vegas 111 on Nov. 8, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
McVey was quickly defeated during his UFC debut against Brunno Ferreira in July, but he'll now receive a chance to bounce back against an opponent who has lost each of his first three UFC fights.
Overwhelmed in UFC debut
MiddleweightUFC
July 19, 2025
McVey lost to Brunno Ferreira via submission (armbar) at 3:35 of Round 1 at UFC 318 on Saturday in New Orleans.
ANALYSIS
Finally getting to make his UFC debut after two prior matchups were cancelled, McVey didn't show much, albeit it as a +440 underdog. He gave up an easy takedown and allowed Ferreira to step into full mount before grabbing ahold of his arm. The 26-year-old Minnesota native had won each of his previously six professional bouts, all via first-round stoppage. Ferreira is an awful tough opponent to face in a late-notice debut, however. It will be interesting to see how McVey fares his next time out, presumably with a full training camp under his belt.
Filling in as replacement

July 2, 2025
McVey will face off against Brunno Ferreira at UFC 318 on July 19, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
McVey will fill in against Brunno Ferreira after Ikram Aliskerov pulled out of the fight with an undisclosed injury. The 26-year-old American is set to make his UFC debut and is currently 6-0 in his professional career.
Ewert fight off
MiddleweightUFC
June 27, 2025
McVey will not fight Christopher Ewert at UFC 317 on Saturday, according to Aaron Bronsteter of TSN.ca.
ANALYSIS
Unfortunately for McVey, the fight cancellation has to do with his opponent. Ewert weighed several pounds over the UFC's middleweight limit and was subsequently cut. It is too late for the UFC to find McVey a new opponent, leaving his next fight without a date.
