First-round exit in Shanghai
Nurgozhay lost to Uran Satybaldiev via submission (Ezekiel choke) at 2:45 of Round 1 at UFC Shanghai on Saturday.

Nurgozhay now now lost both of his UFC fights by submission after earning his shot via Contender Series in 2024, leaving his roster spot in potential jeopardy. It wasn't necessarily submission defense that was the issue here, as Nurgozhay was rocked by a right hand early which proved to be the beginning of the end. He did work out of a kimura attempt, but Satybaldiev eventually took top position and latched on the fight-ending choke. Nurgozhay entered this fight as a slight betting favorite as well, so needless to say, this was a loss he couldn't affortd to have.
