Will Smith

20-Year-Old CenterC
San Jose Sharks
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Rookie Macklin Celebrini had the spotlight on him in San Jose last season, but he wasn’t the only rookie who made his mark for the Sharks. Smith had a productive first campaign with 18 goals and 45 points across 74 appearances. He got off to a slow start with six goals and 15 points across his first 40 appearances. That stretch included some games where he was used sparingly in addition to a smattering of healthy scratches. However, he found his groove from Jan. 20 onward, collecting 12 goals and 30 points in 34 outings while averaging 17:40 of ice time. Given that strong finish, he could be in for a significant jump in points this season, especially if he spends a good chunk of his ice time on a line with Celebrini, though the Sharks may opt to have both young players work on their own lines. Buries goal Monday
CSan Jose Sharks
January 20, 2026
Smith scored a goal in Monday's 4-1 win over the Panthers.
ANALYSIS
Smith has scored in consecutive contests following his 13-game absence due to an upper-body injury. The 20-year-old has immediately retaken a top-line role and doesn't appear to need to shake off any rust. He's up to 14 goals, 31 points, 84 shots on net and a plus-4 rating through 35 appearances, making him a strong offense-only option with ample upside in fantasy.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
While much of the attention will be on Macklin Celebrini, Smith also figures to be a key rookie for the Sharks in 2024-25. Smith's playmaking is his best trait after he racked up 25 goals and 46 assists in 41 appearances for Boston College as a freshman last season. The 19-year-old was selected fourth overall in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, so Smith has plenty of pedigree as a prospect. Look for Smith to push for 40-plus points, though his plus-minus is likely to be poor as the Sharks work through at least one more year of a deep rebuild.
