Owen Tippett

Tippett couldn't secure a top-six spot with Florida, but he averaged 17:26 of ice time in his first full season with Philadelphia and responded by scoring 27 goals and 49 points in 77 outings. Tippett also made his presence felt without the puck last season, recording 69 blocked shots and 125 hits. Although the 2022-23 campaign was the first instance of him even reaching the 25-point mark, Tippett's always had this kind of potential, so it's not surprising to see him do well when finally given the opportunity. With that in mind, fantasy managers looking ahead to the upcoming season should anticipate at least a repeat of his 2022-23 success.

The No. 10 overall pick by the Panthers in 2017, Tippett was moved to Philadelphia in the deal which sent former Flyers captain Claude Giroux to South Florida. He played in 21 games with his new club following the trade, posting seven points. While Tippett has struggled to consistently produce at the NHL level, he has an obvious top-six offensive skill set. Tippett's biggest asset is his wicked shot, which should make him a huge asset with the man advantage. Tippett remains nothing more than a late-round lottery ticket in redraft leagues, although he still has a considerable amount of value in keeper/dynasty formats.

Tippett was given his first sustained run at the NHL level a season ago and performed fairly well (7 goals, 18 points in 45 games) for a guy who saw just 47 seconds worth of power-play time per game. Tippett is a sniper with a bomb of a shot and the Panthers are doing a disservice by not frequently rolling him out there with the man advantage. Of course, they have a loaded forward corps and that was before the additions of Sam Reinhart and Joe Thornton this offseason. It's difficult to envision a scenario in which Tippett's role expands in 2021-22 and in fact, it's more likely his role decreases. He's a much better hold in dynasty/keeper leagues as opposed to redraft formats.

Tippett spent the entirety of the 2019-20 campaign with AHL Springfield, racking up an impressive 19 goals and 40 points in 46 contests. The offseason departures of Mike Hoffman and Evgenii Dadonov have left the Panthers thin on the wings, so Tippett is poised to make the jump to the NHL in a full-time capacity in 2020-21, likely skating on Florida's top line and first power-play unit. It's hard to predict how he'll perform given his limited NHL sample size, but Tippett was drafted 10th overall in 2017 for a reason, and he showed he was ready to play at the professional level last year, making him an intriguing late-round pick with solid upside in this year's fantasy drafts.

Selected 10th overall in the 2017 draft, Tippett should push for a middle-six role with the Panthers this season. The winger has been an offensive dynamo in junior hockey, and he got a chance to dip his toe into the water at the NHL level back in 2017-18, scoring one goal in seven games. Tippett's minus-6 rating over that small sample suggests he still needs to work on his all-around game, but his scoring ability could stand out as soon as this season if he's able to land on a line with other skilled forwards.

Taken 10th overall in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, Tippett is a highly-regarded prospect, mostly for his potential on the offensive end. He's tallied 80 goals and 150 points in 111 games over the last two years with OHL Mississauga, where he'll once again play to start the 2018-19 campaign. The 19-year-old did earn a brief NHL stint last season, scoring a goal in seven games while averaging 11:07 of ice time. In future seasons, Tippett should glean plenty of fantasy potential and accommodate most fantasy formats.

The Panthers selected Tippett with the tenth overall pick in this year's draft, and for good reason. The 18-year-old winger flaunted his elite offensive potential last season, racking up 44 goals and 75 points in 60 games with the Mississauga Steelheads of the OHL. The 6-foot-2 Canadian is still raw, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him begin the 2017-18 campaign in the AHL, but he's also still with the big club less than one week before the start of the regular season, which means he should be on every fantasy owner's radar. If he's able to make the Panthers' Opening Night roster out of camp, Tippett could prove to be a fantastic value pick in the later rounds of drafts this season.
