Joel Hofer

Joel Hofer

25-Year-Old GoalieG
St. Louis Blues
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Hofer has settled in nicely as the backup to Jordan Binnington over the last two years, and he's established himself as one of the steadier options in that role. Hofer went 16-8-3 with a 2.64 GAA and a .904 save percentage over 31 games in 2024-25, with only the save percentage being noticeably down from the previous year. The 25-year-old netminder gets enough playing time to be a worthy fantasy pick in deeper formats as well as a streaming option when he starts in standard leagues. Hofer didn't play more than three games in a row at any point in 2024-25, but that's likely due to Binnington's good health rather than Hofer's performance. Read Past Outlooks

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
Hofer had a great season in 2023-24, going 15-12-1 in 30 games played (27 starts) with one shutout, a 2.65 GAA and a .914 save percentage. GSAx, the tell-tale advanced stat of the true, independent impact of a goalie, shows Hofer was at 12.36 (goals saved above expected), which was good enough for 25th in the NHL. That puts him ahead of a number of starting backstops in the league. Hoefer's game is growing, so expect him to earn even more starts this year. The Blues' top dog Jordan Binnington is coming off the best season of his career, so the two will push each other. That's good for the Blues and fantasy managers alike. Hofer will be a great play in daily, and valuable in weeklies when he's on a roll. Keeper and dynasty managers know his name well.
The Blues' defense didn't play well in 2022-23, but Hofer was alright with a .905 save percentage over six games in the NHL last season. With Thomas Greiss retired, it's Hofer's turn to fill the backup role behind Jordan Binnington. However, that opportunity could easily become a chance to start if Binnington's numbers continue to slide. Hofer went 27-15-5 with a 2.50 GAA and a .921 save percentage over 47 games with AHL Springfield last season, so it's pretty clear that he's ready for a larger NHL role going forward, giving him draft-day fantasy appeal in deeper formats. If he's able to steal the starting job away from Binnington, Hofer would represent a significant value pick in this year's drafts.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Likely to start Monday
GSt. Louis Blues
November 24, 2025
Hofer was in the starter's crease during Monday's morning skate, Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic reports, indicating that he'll likely draw the road start against the Rangers.
ANALYSIS
Hofer has started in just two of the Blues' last six games, but he'll likely be back in the crease Monday. Across his last three outings, he's gone 0-1-2 with 11 goals allowed on 92 shots for an .880 save percentage. The Rangers are scoring 2.48 goals per game this season, which is the third-worst mark in the NHL.
