Howard agreed to a three-year, entry-level contract with Edmonton in the summer after being acquired from Tampa Bay. The 21-year-old forward collected 26 goals and 52 points in 37 games with Michigan State University in 2024-25. He will get every opportunity to secure a roster spot with the Oilers out of training camp and should land a place in the team’s top nine. Howard’s offensive upside makes him an intriguing option in keeper formats, and he could have plenty of fantasy value in standard leagues if he plays alongside Leon Draisaitl or Connor McDavid in 2025-26. ANALYSIS
Howard was called up earlier Monday but will head back to the minors in short order. He was brought up for cap-related reasons, per Gregor. Howard has played well with the Condors in 2025-26, generating 14 goals, 32 points and a plus-8 rating over 30 outings.

Howard is set to make his NHL debut during Wednesday's Opening Night matchup against Calgary, Tony Brar of Oilers TV reports.

ANALYSIS
Howard was initially expected to return to Michigan State for the 2025-26 season, but that changed after he was traded to the Oilers from the Lightning in July. He signed a three-year, entry-level deal with Edmonton upon being dealt and will see NHL playing time to begin the regular season. Howard will serve in a bottom-six role early in the year and could move between Edmonton and AHL Bakersfield if he struggles to carve out consistent playing time in the NHL.
