If you're looking for offense, you can look elsewhere, as Hathaway's 22 points in 84 games last season represented his second-best production in his career. He split the campaign between the Capitals and the Bruins before signing with the Flyers in the offseason. That's likely to lead to a drop in production as he'll be joining a team deep in rebuilding mode. The one positive for fantasy purposes is Hathaway's 250-plus hit potential as one of the most physical players in the league. It's safe to assume he'll be a constant presence on the Flyers' fourth line, but his ceiling is near 10 goals and 20 points. Still, his eye-popping hit totals could make him worth a look in the later rounds in leagues that reward the rough stuff.

Hathaway managed 14 goals and 26 points in 76 games for the Capitals a season ago, but the offensive production was just icing on the cake for owners who grabbed him in fantasy drafts. Hathaway's fantasy value is directly related to how often he throws his body around. The rugged winger has posted at least 154 hits each of the past five seasons, including a career-high 250 hits in 2021-22, a number that placed Hathaway eighth in the league in that category. The scoring numbers may very well have been an aberration, but the hits are here to stay, making the 30-year-old Maine native a worthy fantasy pick in leagues which value that statistic.

Hathaway had arguably his best season as a pro during the 2020-21 campaign. The burly winger posted six goals and 18 points over 56 games - a career-high pace were it not for the pandemic-shortened schedule - while averaging a career-best 12:19 of ice time per contest. Holding down the right flank on a very capable fourth line, Hathaway has every opportunity to match that offensive pace during the upcoming season, but it is his prowess in peripheral categories like hits (179) and PIM (66) where the bulk of his fantasy value lies. The 29-year-old generates enough for those in deeper leagues that count such peripheral metrics, but Hathaway isn't much of a consideration for those in standard leagues.

Hathaway won't offer much on the scoresheet, as he had just 16 points in 66 contests last year. The 29-year-old's primary path to fantasy value will come from his physicality, as he has topped 150 hits in each of the last three years. With his heavy playing style also comes a willingness to walk the line in the rule book -- Hathaway had 79 PIM last year to go with his 189 hits. A fourth-line role will drastically limit his ability to get on the scoresheet, but he'll provide a lot in non-scoring categories, which could make Hathaway a savvy pickup in deep formats.

Hathaway carved out an everyday role for himself in 2018-19, recording 19 points and 200 hits in 79 games while skating on the Flames' fourth line. The physical winger isn't expected to contribute much on offense, but he's capable of notching 15-to-20 points in any given season, although that range is likely his ceiling. The 27-year-old should also be able to dish out around 200 hits and 80 shots on goal during his first season with the Capitals, where he'll once again be competing for fourth-line minutes.

For the second straight year, Hathaway will suit up for the Flames on a one-year deal. The 26-year-old tallied 11 goals and 19 points in 18 games with AHL Stockton last season, but he only mustered 13 points in 59 contests at the NHL level. While he didn't produce much offensively, Hathaway managed to showcase his physicality, racking up 88 PIM and 154 hits despite clocking under 12 minutes of ice time on a per-game basis. He'll likely have to continue fighting for minutes in 2018-19, and it wouldn't shock anyone to see him as a healthy scratch for most of the season, playing only when injuries strike or a matchup calls for added muscle.
