Fantilli gave the Blue Jackets valuable secondary scoring during his sophomore season, collecting 31 goals and 54 points over 82 games. He recovered from a sluggish start by generating 24 tallies and 15 assists in 44 outings to end the regular season. Fantilli got a boost when Sean Monahan was out with a wrist injury and made the most of his top-line promotion. However, Fantilli continued to rack up points after sliding back into a second-line role down the stretch. He also added 191 shots on goal and 113 hits. ANALYSIS
Fantilli cut Columbus' deficit to 4-3 with a backhander at the 13:38 mark of the third period and set up Mason Marchment's equalizer 30 seconds later. Fantilli has been one of the best players for Columbus this season and has been on a tear of late, cracking the scoresheet in all but one of his last seven outings. Over that stretch, the 21-year-old playmaker has nine points (five goals, four assists), 17 shots on goal, 18 hits and five blocked shots.

Fantilli had a strong rookie campaign with 12 goals and 27 points in 49 outings, but a leg injury prevented him from playing past Jan. 28. While it was a rough end to his campaign, it doesn't change the fact that the 19-year-old (20 on Oct. 12) has tremendous upside. Having already given Columbus a taste of what he can do, the rebuilding Blue Jackets will likely use him in a top-six capacity and on the first power-play unit. If that proves to be the case, then it wouldn't be surprising to see Fantilli jump to 50-60 points in his sophomore season, though of course there's some risk there given that his level of NHL experience is still relatively low.
Blue Jackets fans are likely in for another painful season, but at least they'll get to watch Fantilli. He was taken with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft after scoring an incredible 30 goals and 65 points in 36 NCAA outings with the University of Michigan last season. The 18-year-old forward, who stands at 6-foot-2, 195 pounds, will be able to use his size and strength to his advantage in the NHL, but as he showed with Michigan, he's more than just a big body. He's also fast and highly skilled offensively, with the potential to eventually become a top-line center. Taking a rookie is always a risk, but Fantilli appears to be far enough along in his development to record 40-50 points and 50-60 PIM in his first campaign.

Fantilli and the Blue Jackets aren't expected to finalize a contract extension before the season. General manager Don Waddell told reporters, "We've had no negotiations at all. It won't get done before the season," per Aaron Portzline of The Athletic on Monday.
ANALYSIS
In 82 regular-season games last year, Fantilli racked up 31 goals and 23 helpers, including four power-play points. The 20-year-old center should be capable of challenging for the 30-goal mark again this year and could put up career-best numbers if he can expand his power-play production.
