This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.
The NHL was busy on Saturday while Monday is a holiday with a heavier schedule than normal, so Sunday is quite light with only three games and the first one at 2 p.m. EST. You'll still want to make the most of this DFS opportunity, so here are my lineup recommendations.
SLATE PREVIEW
Since it was a packed Saturday, there are still two teams on the second leg of a back-to-back on Sunday with the Oilers hosting the Blues and the Senators visiting the Red Wings.
GOALIE
John Gibson, DET vs. OTT ($7,900): Though the Sens are above average offensively, I'll still go with the goalie facing a team that will have to travel to play their second matchup in as many days. And as a Wings' fan, I'm happy to report Gibson has been on fire for a while having posted a 1.86 GAA and .935 save percentage over his last 14 outings.
VALUE PLAY/ONE-OFF
Jimmy Snuggerud, STL at EDM ($3,600): The Oilers have three questionable goalies and will be on the back end of consecutive nights Sunday. And the one netminder with any promise - Tristan Jarry - started on Saturday. Stacking St. Louis players is a tricky proposition as their offense is terrible, but finding somebody for this matchup made sense so I've gone with Snuggerud as he's notched four points and 29 shots across nine appearances since returning from injury.
FORWARD LINE STACK TO CONSIDER
Red Wings vs. Senators
Dylan Larkin (C - $6,400), Lucas Raymond (W - $5,900), James van Riemsdyk (W - $4,000)
Ottawa lists a bottom-three penalty kill and are on the road Sunday. And with Linus Ullmark away, we may see former Red Wing James Reimer make his first NHL start of the season as the Sens twice recently opted to use Leevi Merilainen for both ends of a back-to-back. However you slice it, I want this line featuring three members of Detroit's top power play.
With 24 goals through 49 games, Larkin is closing in on his fifth straight 30-goal season. The Captain has also registered 13 points with the extra man. Raymond has become an impressive scorer, especially on the man-advantage where he's racked up 21 points after 37 there last year. The Red Wings added van Riemsdyk for some veteran depth this offseason, which has worked out well as he's tallied 13 points from his last 12 matchups.
DEFENSEMAN
Simon Edvinsson, DET vs. OTT ($3,900): To try and save you some salary, I'll go with Edvinsson over Moritz Seider as they're part of Detroit's lead blueline duo. He's also averaged 22:30 with 16 points, 54 shots, and 101 blocked shots overall. Edvinsson doesn't participate much on the power play and may see little of Ottawa's awful penalty kill, yet he's worth selecting against a club bottom-eight in GAA that's missing their best goalie and away for the second day of a back-to-back.
