New Jersey Devils at Winnipeg Jets

The Devils (22-20-2) and Jets (16-22-5) meet at Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba at 2 p.m. EST, that means a 1 p.m. start local time. We could get a little bit of a sluggish start with the early puck drop.

The Devils have managed to score just two total goals in the past three games. That includes an embarrassing 9-0 loss on the road against the New York Islanders on Tuesday night, and a 4-1 at PPG Paints Arena against the Pittsburgh Penguins. They've been outscored 16-2 in the past three losses.

The scoring problems are not new, either, as New Jersey has 19 goals scored in the past 12 games, while the Under is 11-2 across the previous 13 outings.

The Winnipeg Jets dusted the visiting Los Angeles Kings 5-1 behind backup goaltender Eric Comrie in the second end of a back-to-back Friday, bouncing back from a 4-3 loss on home ice to the Edmonton Oilers Thursday. The win was much needed, as Winnipeg is 1-7-4 in the past 12 games, picking up just six out of a possible 24 points since Dec. 15.

Winnipeg has allowed 19 goals in the past five games, so it could be an opportunity for New Jersey to finally get going. But the early puck drop could mean a sluggish beginning to the game. The Jets have hit the Over in four of the past five games, but the Over-Under is 6-6 in the past 12.

With the Devils struggling to score, and the Jets struggling to do much of anything, it's really hard to pick a winner.

Instead, we're going to go high on the total, as long as we can get it at 5.5. While the Devils have struggled offensively, the Jets have been very giving, and that should be the elixir to cure New Jersey's offensive ills.

Though the Jets have had issues lately, it's no fault of Mark Scheifele. He has four goals and seven points in the past five outings, and he is a good bet as an Anytime Goal Scorer.

One more note, especially if you're a player prop bettor. Devils D Dougie Hamilton will be a healthy scratch Sunday, and he is apparently sick of being in New Jersey. His agent stated Sunday that he is willing to be flexible in a trade attempt, as he currently has just a 10-team trade list in his contract.

  • Jets C Mark Scheifele - Anytime Goal Scorer (+125 FanDuel)

Pittsburgh Penguins at Boston Bruins

The Penguins (21-13-9) and Bruins (24-19-2) meet at TD Garden at 5 p.m. EST, and both teams are playing the second end of a back-to-back.

Pittsburgh suffered a 2-1 loss at home against the Calgary Flames on Saturday afternoon as the Under (6.5) cashed. Arturs Silovs did a decent job in the crease, making 23 saves on 25 shots, but only RW Yegor Chinakhov was able to come through with a goal.

The Penguins left Pittsburgh at 7:30 p.m. EST on their Delta Airlines charter flight, arriving into Boston's Logan Airport at 8:54 p.m. EST. So, while they did travel after Saturday's game, the flight wasn't terribly daunting, and it isn't a late night.

The Bruins certainly had no trouble scoring on Saturday against the visiting New York Rangers. Boston paddled New York in an Original Six battle 10-2 on Saturday afternoon, as both Marat Khusnutdinov and Pavel Zacha recorded hat tricks.

It was the first time Boston ever had two players with a hat trick in the same home game in the team's history, and it was the first time since 1964 two teammates accomplished that feat. In fact, Khusnutdinov ended up with four goals, and Fraser Minten chipped in with two goals. David Pastrnak didn't score, but he matched a team record with six assists.

Despite the loss Saturday, the Penguins are still 6-1-0 in the past seven games, including wins by G Stuart Skinner in the past three outings. Pittsburgh is 2-2-3 in seven games on no rest.

The Bruins are 4-1-0 in the past five games, and 3-2-0 in five games when playing on no rest. We'll take the Bruins on home ice behind Joonas Korpisalo, while going low on the total
