Matti Schmid

28-Year-Old Golfer
2025 Fantasy Outlook
The highlight of Schmid's season came at Colonial where he finished one back of Ben Griffin at the Charles Schwab Challenge in May for his best Tour result. He had a bit of a letdown after that, missing his next three cuts, but he still managed to qualify for the playoffs. The 28-year-old is entering his fourth season on Tour, and his combination of distance and putting, where he ranked 31st in each category in 2025, sets him up for spike weeks. Schmid's around the green play continues to be a major weakness, however, and he'll continue to be held back on tougher venues without improvement in that area. Read Past Outlooks
Unable to convert 36-hole lead
November 9, 2025
Schmid posted a six-under 66 on Sunday at the World Wide Technology Championship to finish 24-under and tied for sixth place.
ANALYSIS
After firing rounds of 64-63, Schmid led by one stroke through 36 holes but was bypassed following a one-under 71 on Saturday. He was able to bounce back with eight birdies (to go along with two bogeys) in the final round to hang onto a top-10 finish. The third-year PGA Tour pro has posted a top-15 result in two of his last three starts.

There wasn't really much for Schmid to write home about after finishing the regular season 148th in the FedExCup. Unlike a number of other player, Schmid went right over to Europe to play and stay warm for the FedExCup Fall events. That strategy worked out as he notched a solo third in Bermuda to make a big leap and ultimately secure full playing status again for 2024. Schmid is top-10 on the PGA Tour in driving distance, but the rest of the game needs work if he is going to put together more consistent results. There is certainly long-term upside because of the distance, but there's also a good chance he finds himself in a similar place next fall after only making 12-of-30 cuts in 2022-23.
Schmid made two appearances on the PGA Tour in July when he tied for eighth at the Barbasol Championship before making another cut one week later at the Barracuda Championship. The 24-year-old Louisville product earned his PGA Tour card for the 2022-23 later in the summer via the Korn Ferry Tour Finals, placing T37-T9 at the Albertsons Boise Open and the Nationwide Children's Hospital Championship. Schmid otherwise spent a majority of his 2022 campaign on the DP World Tour where he ranks ninth in driving distance.
